I am looking at a track trimed 86 951. Does anyone know if cars that old still require cats in most states (specifically VA). It doesnt have a cat and Id like to just not put one in. If I do need one...about how much can I get a used cat or aftermarket high flow cat for, for this car? Thanks!

 

not sure about the emissions testing standards for your state, but in most places it's possible to pass emissions with a test pipe in place of the cat. if no visual inspection is required in Virginia, you can try a test pipe and if it doesn't pass, change back to a cat. stock cats ain't cheap, but I'm sure there are some aftermarket items available in the 2 to 300 range

 

try to pass without one If its race preped then itwill be low to the ground and you should be fine. with no cat and other mods m car passed with flying colors
