Newb here looking for a 944
Newb here looking for a 944
I'm somewhat new to the whole car scene
. Started hanging out with some new people about half a year ago and got really into cars and have always wanted a Porsche.
I'm looking to but a 944 either turbo or non-turbo.
Not looking for one that has already been tweaked to hell (Looking to mod and learn more), however I do want one that is running or very near running.
If anyone has one for sale or has a link for one it would be greatly appreciated and very much so helpful.
Thank you,
Voltron

Volton,
There are a bunch of decent 944's around Minneapolis right now. I picked my 944 up in October.
What are you looking to spend and what do you really want? If you want something that pins you to the seat at Green lights go for the Turbo if you just want to frustrate the heck out of your friends by out cornering them slide into any 944.
I know of a pretty sweet 951 (944 Turbo) and a 944 S2 that are both available and will keep you busy. I passed them both up for my 944. I regret not buying the Turbo as I'm now searching for a new engine for my 944.
The guy I bought it from, one of the owners of Bobby and Steve's Auto, mis-represented the work his guys had done on the car when they sold to to me. He got off easy. He refunded $1,000 to get the headgasket done at Auto Edge... only to have them tell me the block was causing the trouble not the head/gasket... CRAP! That's going to hurt my wallet a bit more than the $1,000. Oh well.
Right now I'm trying to track down a new engine for my 1988 944 N/A.

I'm looking to pick up one of these but i've heard that they're hard to keep running 100% because of expensive parts.
I'll keep looking but it'd be great if any of the more experienced members could point us to one of those "living with a 944" sorta threads.
Thanks!

944 Turbo
Newbie question. I used to own a 1989 BMW E30 M3. I am considering 944 Turbo, but, why is the price for a 944 Turbo ($8000+ in good condition) so much lower than BMW E30 M3 ($16000+ in good condition)? Is there a large performance difference or is one much less reliable and more expensive to maintain?
I always thought since they were manufactured during the same years that the Porsche cars would at least cost about the same. Comments from anyone who has owned both?
Thanks,
Jim

e30 M3's are rare and hard to find. Best M3's in my opinion. A friend on mine had one which he bought in 2003. It was a 88. 6 months later he sold for 16k. He didn't realize it was in big demand.
88 turbo S and 89 turbo demand more of a premium for good examples. Excellent cars will go from 15k and up.
