I would say a 99 Turbo. They are legendary track cars.

I think the 944 is probably a better track car...cheap and fun with perfectly balanced handling, but the 928 can be made into an amazing track car if you take off some of it's extra weight. I love my 928, but I have a 944 for the track.

I owned a 928 for 16 years and loved every second of it. The salesman told me when I bought it 2 things; 1st you will never get tired of driving it, it will always feel new every time you get in and go and 2nd; you will always be the limit of the automobile. He was dead on. My twin brother bought the 944 t, it was nice but felt cheap inside, didn't handle or run as good as my 928. Just a personal experience.

I've owned both a 944 Cup car and a highly modded 928 and by far the 944 was a better track car.
The 944 was underpowered, but that made me learn my lines and how to carry my speed better in the long run, but after time, I just needed to go faster so I sold it.
The 928 was just burly, scared babies and was a blast, but was a pig on the track.

944 will be under powered by todays standards. More of an autocross car.

928 isn't really well suited for track.

Why you want an automatic?

How about a nice older 911 like 964, 993 or 996. You will need to pay more initially but they'll hold up better.

My 1983 944 is under powered, however, it is a fantasic track car. With less power, I learn to use momentum and brake later. The 944 is a very forgiving car on the track, and is a great reliable car and inexpensive to maintain.

2muchtime hit the nail on the head. The 928 was simply the best car Porsche made while in production and even today is (NOW OPINION) the best looking inside and out GT made with only the the GTO and One-77 as rivals.

Visual fact tools;

fastest off the line against 2 944 turbos

much better handling, braking and acceleration on a tight twisty track than a 964 in the hands of equally capable track drivers (start at 3:50)

i have owned both the 944n/a, 951 with nos,928,928s/nos,928s4.....nothing beats the 951 esp. on track its a very agile car and balanced......928 is a heavy car no matter what you do it is heavy the power of the 928 is at higher band...good if you are running 100mph and up.....unless you put a supercharger....928 handles better at top speed esp. on a straighaway...maintenancewise..951 is alot lot cheaper..

I have 10,000 combined posts on other forums over the last 8 years and have heard it all.

Your personal ownership history does not change the facts, in no year did a 944 variant out-perform the 928 in acceleration, braking, and skidpad. Those facts make the 928 the mac daddy to the 944. The above 2 video's illustrate that.

From your post I take it that you did not watch the 2nd video which is the more important 1 for this discussion.
