The old 930 vs 964 Turbo conundrum

Well, I am having the conundrum here of deciding between 2 930's (a stock or slightly modified 930) vs. a very slightly modified 964 Turbo (3.3). The 964 just came up and is local and it tweaked my brain...All said, all the cars are pristine with under 50k miles and all will end up costing me in the neighborhood of $50-$55k.

I know the 930's are rawer and that is what attracts me to them but the a/c systems don't work and they have their flaws. I have been reading that 964 turbo's are soft and serene which is not what I am looking for. If it is just relative I can live with that but I don't want a Lexus.

This car will be used rarely. I have a 996TT that I use for track duty and weekends. The 930/964 is more of a desire because I love the style. Just can't figure out this one!

i wouldnt buy the highly modded 930. the other 930 maybe. i have owned both 930 and 965 multiple times. if the 965 is tight i would take it over the 930 unless the 930 is perfect and is MY 87 or newer. problem with the 930 unless its an 87-89 is the 4 speed tranny, it has very long gears and i hated it

also, the 930 isnt much more "raw" than the 965, slightly lighter, yes but those cars are very similar unless you are talking about the MY 76-79

Well after searching for the past year I decided on a 964 Turbo. Originaly, like everyone else, I started looking for an 89 Turbo. I knew I didnt want to import Canadian or a ROW car. After not finding a good solid mostly original 930 in any color but red (don't get insulted I love the red cars but not for me) a really nice Black on Black 91 964 Turbo with 26,000 miles ar a reasonable price became available. And it was a local car as well.

The 964's are a refined 930. ABS, airbags, bit more power, A/C blows cold.

My decision to buy the 964 Turbo came down to findind a good car. I will most likely sell the car if I can find the right 930 at a reasonable price.

Such decisions we get to make.....

Photos coming soon...

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the car?

I would go w/ the 964 hands down if I had to make the choice. Good luck with what ever choice you make.

Too late. I've got an '86 930 in the garage. 22k miles. Mild mods. Now the garage is complete!

oh awesome!! Looks great and congrats! My garage will be complete when I have the 964T. Not for a few more years though. Too many other projects.
