Turbo S or McLaren?
Interesting discussion, and it highlights what could become a bit of an issue for this car...price. Porsche has pushed the price point so high that real supercars with very different character and 'panache' come into the picture, as is depicted here. I guess we will see how it plays out in the marketplace. I've been in a 12c but never a tt, and all I can tell you is that the 12c is the most amazing car I've ever ridden in. The choice is a high quality problem, that's for sure.
The 991 in general is a departure from a traditional 911 in so many ways . It is more luxurious and less simplistic . Since the Turbo is ultimate of a luxury 911 my first thought was that it would be the best choice of the 991 series . The only problem is the 991 series is enough of a disappointment that a repeat Porsche owner like me isn't excited about buying one .
I love the Mclaren . It's just not a practical choice for my region and driving needs.

991TTS if it was my choice. I drove the car last week and it's a world of difference with the 997 TTS, in every aspect.
But I think it is most important to get what makes YOU happy, not what makes us or other people happy
Good luck!

12c is a great car, a real head turner, but my dd choice would be the 991tt as it still has just enough discretion to get away with it. Got to be able to use the toys as much as possible these days and too much attention can have its price.
The Brit without even thinking about it. I live in DC and have only seen a couple, ever. 991tt's will eventually be all over the place. Say what you will, exclusivity has its place in the discussion.
That this discussion is even taking place means Porsche may be reaching the limits of how much flesh they can bite out of their customers.

. The other thing missing here is a lot of immediate decisions appear to be being based without even driving the two and, are predominately being made on an attention getting factor between the two. I'm pretty sure the drive of the 991tt and a view in the flesh will have to a degree quite an impact on the current mindset here. Not saying 12c's shouldn't be bought over a 991tts because decisions are personal as we know, but from what i've read to date from those that have driven and reviewed the new 991tt car it has advanced light years from the 997 platform and is a serious blast. Engineering and development has a price and that cannot be overlooked. And, to say one has depreciated from an original high brand new price to a tasty 190k to match a new price of a 991tt that hasn't even seen any depreciation is also forgetting that prices never stand still the moment a car (new or used) is driven from the showroom. And the Maclaren's used price of near new examples is proof positive of that
. It's where that actual price will fall two years on from now in comparison to the used price of a 991ttS 2 years on that will ultimately tell that story. The drops may well prove to be pretty close imho. My experience has always been when you buy something used for half and then sell it 4 years on it halves again so the pricing issue in reality becomes really more of an affordability issue for the individual buying the car/s at their prices on the day. The only thing that can help prop the price is having extremely low mileage but then that is a sign of little use that has come at a high cost to the owner. The other thing is these exotic car comparison and what ifs, what would you get etc are not new. The same Q has been asked on 458's and Lambos don't forget. And to say 12C over 458 or Lambo is another question and the answer comes down to what the buyer is looking for.

I got a used 911tt for about 85k and my brother got a used R8 for about 85k. I like the performance, taking my kids in the back seat, comfort (6'6") and flying under the radar (as much as a P-car can). He loved the exotic looks and lux features. He also liked all the attention it got at first....now, not so much. He can't park it anywhere without kids (and adults) messing with it and taking pictures. I'm sure the the 12c is similar in the attention it gets
The "head turner" aspect of the car is actually the negative to the McLaren for me. The 991 turbo S blends right in and I expect similar performance from it. Your posts have been excellent, so thanks very much. ;-)
Ya know, as many of our European friends tell us that we get a great deal on the 911 here in the USA vs what they pay over there, I'm not so sure the 911 is a bad deal anyway. Having said that, I really like the McLaren- especially the 12C Spyder. Overall I see the 911 as more, uhh, "practical" if that word can apply here. YMMV.
