My new All-Weather Assassin
My new All-Weather Assassin
Picked up a new Turbo S in rhodium silver/black a couple weeks ago. I spec'd the car earlier this year, with a lot of help from the sales team. Optionals include Burmeister, glass sunroof, adaptive cruise, LED floor lights, some extra leather, and Porsche Entry and Drive.
The interior has come a long way since 997.1 Smells great, beautiful and not too busy or blingey. Sound system is the best I've heard in a sports car. Seats, well, maybe my low back needs the 19-way, because the 18 is not working so well. I'm 6 feet tall, slim, and not too picky about seating. More adjustments are not necessarily a good thing. I prefer the 997 set up. Apples to oranges with this different seating position. The seats themselves may well be identical. The cushion is adequate however to mediate some of that ever present 911 "whump" when a rear tire hits an expansion joint, and the lateral support is nice.
I took a pass on the centerlocks as I had concerns about them and want to eventually get a winter wheel set. No word from the dealer yet on this additional opportunity to take my money. Probably will do narrower sottozeros as on previous cars.
The glass sunroof was a bit of a gamble as I dislike heavy, gimicky options. Who doesn't? I'm fair skinned and never use the things. The execution is a bit lacking; the roof is not glass and opening not large. However, I like it. It lets hot air out, soft light in, and isn't too noisy at highway speed. Also, with a light colored metal roof, there is just too much "unanswered" black on the car, from the wheels, the low plastic bits, the air intakes. I think the sunroof looks cool open or closed, from inside and out. It might look even better with white or GT silver.
I haven't launched or overboosted yet, but the turbo "nuclear beehive" shove is there of course, and more addictive than ever. Turbos are more audible than in the 997.2 TTS. The PDK is near perfect in normal/manual mode. Fast and smooth and intuitive in traffic or on the open road.
This is my 4th turbo, with a 458 and a 12C in between. I'm impressed and happy with this dense bundle of tech. What little this gen gives up in feel and connection, it gives back in speed and precision, not to mention luxury and efficiency. Most of the fun, less of the hassle. Soooo much more usable than the competition. Cheers

A weapon to be sure
Awesome color! Waiting on a TTS in Rhodium. I appreciate your comments about the car and trust that the seats work for me. They seemed OK to me, but then I have not had the as much seat time as you. I plan to get the Turbo S wheels with winter compound Pirellis. Yes the 20's are wide, but if the snow is flying, I'll just drive my A8.

I tried to update that but it seems stuck on MI. I lived in the UP for 7 years. It's, well, an interesting place to own sports cars. Most of my historical cars were purchased in WI or IL. I moved to Iowa to balance work and family concerns. I miss MI, for what it's worth. I'll be there next month!
Never tried that. I'm pretty conservative on public roads. If I was interested in that sort of thing, I would have chosen a lighter spec and better tires. I'm betting it's faster than any stock 997 except maybe 2RS, and slower than McLaren 12C/650S and 458S. Anyone know?
First, I love the rhodium silver with the glass sunroof, LED headlights and sport design mirrors! Those options will definitely be on the build sheet when I order my TT. I am likely going to order a custom black/terracotta interior provided it can still be done; it would be nice to get the terracotta carpet as well as the leather.
My first question relates to the fancy cruise control option. What is your experience with this system? Did the dealer lend you a test drive model with this option before you ordered it, or did you just want the latest technology/ I am on the fence with this costly option so I welcome your feedback.
My second question is about the rear window wiper. I had this on my 993 Turbo (that I never, ever, ever should have sold!), and I loved it. Was this an item the dealer recommended? I live in Minne-snow-ta and I think this option is essential. I welcome your thoughts on this as well.
AWESOME CAR

Will do, but I need some more stick time in this one first
