LOOOOONG Time Turbo Owner Probably Coming Back to Turbo S
LOOOOONG Time Turbo Owner Probably Coming Back to Turbo S
A little Background. I'm a long time Turbo owner looking to come back to a 991 Turbo S Cab. I've owned Turbo's since the 993 came out. (Sure wish I had kept it - last of the air cooled.) Since then a 996, 2 - 997 Turbos, GT2, GT2RS & a 997 Turbo S. Last year traded the GT2RS for a Ferrari 599 HGTE (since traded for a 599 GTO) and also traded my wife's 997 Turbo S on a Bentley GTC so for the first time in almost 20 years no Turbo & the first time since 1979 without a 911. I am have trouble getting past the interior. We have a 2 - 2011 Cayenne Turbos and a 2015 Cayenne Turbo on the water to replace one of the 2011s. I will be ordering to my specs as I usually order many options. I just think Porsche has taken some of the sportiness of the interior away by using basically the same console as the Cayenne & Panamara. I really like the interior of the 997s better. Am I alone? A lot of the questions I had are being answered in Treviso's thread so following it closely. Any other info on the 991 Turbo S cars would be appreciated. Also anybody that has gone from the 997 to the 991, I'd like to hear their thoughts of the differences. BTW I am keeping the GTO.
Nice 599 GTO. I always liked the 599 since being introduced in 06.
If the interior on a 991 is a deal break I am sure you can find a 2013 Turbo S at a great deal right now that is barely used. I understand the concern and if you have two cayennes it may seem a bit less special inside with Porsche using the same console. The 997.2's interior was stark in comparison. The 996 had possibly the worst interior of any 911 and it looked like it belonged in a dodge stratus. With that said the 991's interior is much more civilized and a more comfortable place to be if you are tall. I am 6 ft3 230 lbs and appreciate the extra space the 4 inch stretch to the wheelbase gave the cabin. The car is more composed than the outgoing 997.2 at high speed and less nervous/twitchy feeling. This may translate to a more insulated feeling. The launch control and PDK are revised as well. The electric steering has slightly less feedback than the 997.2 but after 2500 miles I have no complaints. Since the 991's motor is largely a carry over from the 997.2 the aftermarket tuning community has already been offering some great products to take the performance to the next level.
Have you been able to drive a new 991 Turbo S yet? If not I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how fast the car is. It will match your 599 GTO all day long if not faster.
I hope some more folks weigh in to help with your decision.

The center stack can also be found in the 981s (not sure if that will be a further turn off for you or not). I had a 981 and a 997 recently and I was happy with both. I think the buttons in the 991 are laid out well and are slightly easier to use while driving. Also, the 991 will have blue tooth streaming (not sure if that matters to you) but I personally like not having an Aux/USB wire dangling around in the cabin.
The 991 is a more refined ride and feels like a bigger car. The cabin is insulated better from wheel/road noise which is nice but the electric power doesn't feel quite as good as the hydraulic one in the 997. If you want a more visceral feeling then I would say the 997 would be more suited to you. Good luck!

Yes...Yes the 996 had one of the worst interiors of any Porsche's ever made. When it was launched it was cheap and has aged almost as bad as Keith Richards....

Totally agree on all counts!!
IMCARNUTS- with a couple DD's like the Cayennes and a Bentley GT in the mix mind if I ask why you did not hold on the GT2 or GT3RS? Those are both bonkers cars and perfect for a week end car.

With the aid of all who replied I've decided to order the 991 Turbo S. I'll keep the GTO but it is almost a race car for the street - not very tame & VERY limited where you can take it. The 997 Turbo S was just an amazing car. So easy to drive yet so fast. Plus my wife drove the 997 way more than I did & that will continue with the 991. She loves to drive a sports cat but is intimidated by the GTO. It is not an easy car to drive. You have to be on top of it at all times.
I sold the GT2 to purchase the GT2RS (not GT3 RS). I've owned a lot of Porsches but while on vacation saw a 599 HGTE at a dealer in Naples. Just decided to try something different. I really should have kept the GT2RS. It was such a great car. I only had the 599 HGTE for a few months when I traded it for a 599 GTO. Bottom line - imcarnuts.
