Such a shame that clear rear reflectors are not available. With the tail lights and third brake light and front side reflectors clear the red rear reflectors do not match. Thinking of having them painted body color. Probably won't find tape in Basalt black.

 

I think the best option is to have them painted. All states require two red reflectors on the rear bumper. Whether that would ever be an issue, I don't know.

I looked at silver reflective material, and black vinyl wrap material, and all it did was draw attention to the reflectors, opposite what I wanted. If I do anything, it will be paint the the reflectors. Best of a very limited set of options, IMO!

 

I am inclined to paint them Basalt Black like the body but not if it earns me tickets.

 

I know basalt black is a metallic, but do you think a light tint to darken the reflectors a bit to where the red is still visible, but less obvious, might help?

I was going to look to see if there are any spray silver tints available.

Your state DMV code has any reflector requirements in the required equipment section, but as long as the reflector still reflects red, it might still be legal.

I know a couple Georgia LEOs I'll run it by.

 

I wil ask Detailing Dynamics what they think about the red reflector issue.

 

I just ordered a couple replacement rear reflectors from SunCoast. I want a pair of extras so I can stay legal if I do go with the painted option.

 

How right you were. Spoke with Suncoast Parts. The clear 991 tail light package is backordered and will not be in from Germany under mid February. The dealers I have called told me it was a special order and that they did not stock the clear tails.

Well my Europipe exhaust does not ship from Belgium until January 26. I suppose the best things in life are worth waiting for.

Are the clear tails brand-new or did you use them before you pulled them. Also does you set include the two rear tail lights and the clear brake light on the spoiler? You can answer via PM as well as with the price.

 

I'm sure the bumperplugs reflectors are great, but a painted set for the TTS is about $254 not including core deposit. You can get a 10-12 oz spray can of any Porsche paint from several touch-up paint sources for $8-20 a can. Scotch-Brite the reflector plastic, spray your color and spray some clear, and you can easily DIY it for $15-$30.

 

I am not much of a DIY guy. I ordered the bumper plugs reflectors. Body colored reflector plugs will go better with the clear tails and spoiler brake light than red reflectors that have no other red color on the exterior.

 

Detailing Dynamics is hard at work on the car and is installing the front and rear parking cameras and laser jammers/radar detector. So much hard labor. Here are the pictures of the car's current status.
