Intercooler cleaning and gaps

Greetings everyone, hope all is well.

How do you clean your intercoolers?

What I do is spray them with a high pressure water gun
during the process of washing my car. Is this safe?

The rear deck lid of the engine also contains gaps in between
the fins. When you open the lid there is an intake hole that is
positioned right in the middle with a fan on each side. I do not see any passage for the water to escape. Is it better to have the gaps covered in masking tape before washing the car?

Appreciate the advice.

Best to hose away over the vents I think a smart person will not direct a hose into the ventings when washing. They are not designed to have water pushed into deliberate by hose. This is asking for a trouble for water to enter engine area..

I just run a RedMax blower through the bumper ducts ever season to clean out debris, dirt, etc...
