Who wins either style of race if the vehicles are stock, I would guess a 991. Modified 997.2 have been smoking the 991's in roll racing but there are limited upgrades available on the 991 ( in the US anyway ).
Hey Mark, yes I agree with you regarding airstrip / drag racing. Obviously I'm not a bench racer, as I do more airstrip/track/drag events than anyone. But 49 HP delta isn't anything to dismiss. And most important, it's at Cobb. We aren't comparing a dynojet result in the Middle East to a mustang dyno result in Texas. This is at Cobb, who are known for having a very good calibrated and consistent dyno. Both dynos were done at Cobb. Both cars bone stock. Both cars 91 octane. If these two bone stocks ever did a roll race, it's pretty clear which car would win, particularly considering the lower weight of the 997.2. But now both of these cars are modded. So it's just speculation. But hey, the OP asked a speculative question.

Adam,
that blows me away 49HP, and doesnt even really make sense. What are the stock 991 and 997.2 quarter mile times? I know porsche used smaller turbos on the 991, probably so they could go with the .2 turbos on the next 991 for a bump in power. Anyway I wasn't suggesting your a bench racer you are one the few that actually drive your can the way they were meant to be driven and then some. Shift Sector in October with any luck Champion will have the intercoolers out in time, Did you get the fuel system upgrade yet?

461 to 520 torque, there's no way the tune was designed for 91.

2 octane isn't going to make near that big a difference unless it's designed for it.

2012 Turbo S vs. 2015 turbo S

I did a friendly roll with a stock 997.2TTS in my stock 991TT (sc). I was in front by about 1 car length. It wasn't to 150mph tho. It was a short one around 50kmph to 180kmph. Tried twice. Same result. This was when my car was still fairly new tho hadn't broken her in yet but still went for it.

My own real world experience is that the tuned/exhaust 997.2s are faster than my GIAC Stage 2/Europipe/IPD plenum 991 TTS.

Also just roll raced a 997.2 twice with the 9 second tune/kit (tune, Champion intercoolers, IPD plenum/Y pipe/Werks intake at Slipstream's Roll Out to Reach Out roll races at Pocono Raceway. We each won one race but the 997.2 was definitely faster than mine. Of course the Champion intercoolers are still not out for the 991 TTS and I expect they will help alleviate the terrible heat soak that my car suffers from.

Just remember, the 991 turbo has superior cooling over the 997.2 turbo. Even the front fan is something close to 400 up from 280 k power. So in very hot climates like ours we certainly have the advantage. However I think the results will be much closer in winter or could even be the opposite. 997.2 turbo has less tolerance to heat soak compared to the 991turbo. Also another reason why you see the lp560 and 458 beating the 997.2 tts in oman. All the other videos show the opposite. Just something to keep in mind.

Hi Mark I agree doesn't make a lot of sense but the only comparative data so far. Hopefully more dyno data will come in.

I remember when I first got my 997.2 and put a GIAC tune and IPD plenum and went out to Famoso and did a 10.6 @ 130.3 mph and there were a couple people posting how slow that was since bone stock they were doing 10.7 at 129.X.

In terms of terminal 1/4 trap, in the US there have been a few 997.2's doing 128-129 but not as many 991's that I have seen.

I think stock for stock generally it should be pretty close with sometimes the 997.2 coming out on top and sometimes the 991.
