Wannagofast Results Clarified -- GIAC Stage 2+ Faster than Cobb Stage 2 by 3.4101

The official Wannagofast results are now in and my GIAC Stage 2+'s fastest run was 3.4101 mph faster than the awesome Cobb Stage 2's best run -- 161.6379 mph to 158.2278. Here are the results from Sunday -- the faster of the two days where both cars posted their best runs:

http://www.wannagofast.com/event-tim...016sun_fin.htm

This 3 mph delta was consistent with the 3 mph delta in our one (unplanned) head to head race:

I felt the need to clarify because my friend Webcarconnection (who is a super great guy in person whom I look forward to seeing again at another event) had posted here that he saw the Cobb car do a 160 mph run -- which would
Only be 1 mph faster than my much more extensively modded car.

The report of only a 1 mph difference, of course, Caused some members running the Cobb tune to make some comments drawing rather unflattering conclusions about the GiAC tune that, as it turns out, are not supported by the event's results.

People make buying decisions based on this stuff and I felt the need to correct this incorrect -- but I am sure well intentioned -- report.

I was shocked by the report by Webcar that the Cobb Stage 2 car ran 160 mph which would only be 1 mph faster than mine. Moreover the traps I saw from that car were in the 157-158 range.

I actuality, the 3.4101 mph difference between my car and the Cobb Stage 2 car is more in line with what I had expected. 158 mph with almost no Mods is a fantastic result -- some 8 mph higher than, for example, the 2 458 that ran. I don't think a different driver would have driven the Cobb Stage 2 car to a much faster result.

This is not a commentary on whether my car would have been faster than the Cobb/ByDesign Stage 3 with ByDesign intercoolers car. That would have been an apples to apples race. At ShiftSector, the ByDesign Stage 3 car was faster than the GIAC Stage 2+ car In head To head racing but the GIAC Stage 2+ car came
Home with a higher trap speed of the meet (on the better running day -- Sunday).

From what I understand that Cobb Stage 2 car will be back with more extensive mods at future events. Which means it's speed will go way up from what was a strong result with so little mods.

Hey Scott my mistake, sorry... I thought I saw a 160 for that car, but if the official site said is 158 Well 158 it is... Eitherway that car was on pump gas, so like you said a 158 with a OTS 93 oct map with a catted Kline it's good in my book

No big deal my friend.

I agree with you that 158 on an airstrip with no traction for a car with virtually no modifications except tune and exhaust is excellent. The car ran strong and it was driven very well.

I have absolutely no dog in this fight, but my 2014 TTS with GIAC Stage 2 and GMG 200 cel cats exhaust also ran 161 mph at the last ShiftSector event. I know for a fact that Jason and ShiftSector go to great length to ensure the accuracy of the 1/2 mile run.

+1 for Shift Sector. Scott's car would have likely run 164 there too. No Cobb stage 2 & exhaust car that day but can't wait for us all to make some good runs this month!

The Cobb Stage 2 cars run very fast for just a tune and exhaust. Since My car has same mods as Mark Blackwell I would expect to go about the same speed.

My wife outran me in the 911

I was very proud of her. She handled the car great. Even did a cold launch control with no TCS and managed to correct a down right spin.

Our plans with the car are not set at this point. It is at the ripe old age of 200 miles.

Part of me wants to go open checkbook, but the other part of me, says my wife has never been above 160 mph driving. Lol

What I will tell you, is that I have never had better service offered to me than at by design. I had questions on a Sunday afternoon , and Sam was on board.

To me that is worth 2 mph. 3 mph. 4 mph. Whatever.

What is even more awesome, is that same great guy, is going to hook my little 911 up, and hopefully get some more speed in the half.

Everyone knows UGR is a hard act to follow. But when you can count on a vendor like Sam. There really isn't a #2 that is anywhere close.

Stay tuned. My wife just worked on her autograph

Mike

How did you tune your GIAC? Did you bring it to Champion?

In February 2015, The GIAC Stage 2 flash, my Europipe, my Champion race Diverter valves, IPD plenum and BMC filter were installed at Detailing Dynamics in Mineola, NY (they are a GIAC dealer).

In September 2015, The Champion intercoolers were installed at Champion Motorsports along with the Tubi catless race exhaust and the initial not public version of the GIAC Stage 2+ plus.

In October or November 2015, Detailing Dynamics subsequently Installed the public release file version of the GIAC Stage 2+ and swapped out the IPD plenum for the stock plenum.

Eagerly awaiting the roll out of the Champion turbo upgrade so I can send my car back down there and get it done
