JK996TT is infamous around these parts
I get the Start/Stop situation is government mandated. But what about the spoilers retracting every time as well? Any ideas on that one?

I don't think it is that it is directly mandated but that the official mileage numbers have to be done in a default condition. That is, if you are going to use stop-start to improve the mileage numbers, the car now has to default to that condition every time you start up. Same for the spoiler. Extended it worsens mileage numbers. Manufactures are desperately looking for every tenth of a mpg they can get. So the car defaults to spoiler retracted. This theory seems to make sense but I'm not privy to what Porsche is thinking. They certainly didn't choose the defaults just to irritate their very important customers.

When in sport plus , or sport plus individual once the car reaches 8 mpg spoilers extend to track position . The spoilers then will stay up at any speed , and stay up when the car is off . Once you restart the spoilers are still in track mode , just turn the **** ( .2 seconds ) back to individual with spoiler in track mode in the individual settings or sport plus and it will stay up indefinitely . If you are in normal or sport it will retract once you start moving which is better than the .1 so you don't unintentionally drag the front spoiler on a steep driveway . The steering wheel mode selector is a huge improvement over pushing buttons , just have to read the manual .

A little off topic but I was stuck in traffic in my 911 TTS and low on fuel so I turned on the auto start stop function. Anyone have any idea how much it improves mpg? I realize one needs to make certain assumptions like being in city traffic.

PS. I made it to the gas station.

Well, if you were puttering down the road a 30 miles per hour, you would probably get 30 MPG (at least) so that would be a gallon per hour. Idling, you should do at least as well. So, if the start-stop operated for 15 minutes of down time, you would save a quart of gas (0.25 gallon). Not a lot to save. As I said up a couple posts, the car manufacturers are fighting for every tenth of a gallon MPG. When you consider that warm ups, air conditioning, cooling catalytic converters, low battery voltage and steering wheel position will disable start-stop (i.e. keep the engine idling) there isn't a lot to save in the real world.
