Cracked my PDK wide open like an Egg
Quite a lot of power - must be quite the beast and a fun road to pioneer!
With a well engineered car things will break as designed. You're at about double the stock power and worst case conditions for the case, no? Wonder if the German engineers were shooting for a safety factor of 2 on this design. I had a Honda S2000 years back and noticed that quite a few things failed right at that mark. Made me suspect they did a nice job from the factory!
I assume the casing is made from a decent aluminum alloy? Seems you need thicker walls, a stronger alloy, or a good quality steel case going forward. Wonder if a good machine shop could mimic the factory design using a significantly stronger alloy or material.
Porsche did one hell of a job with the engineering, like u said double the power and I finally broke it. That being said the case is really thin. And a few guys are working on a solution but it's no where close to being produced
Anyhow, sorry and congratulations on hitting a new mark with this platform!

Damn sorry Karl. Glad it wasn't worse and you'll be back up soon. Take a deep look at everything to be sure and safe.
Scott, they can handle the power...The problem is trying to put it all down on a strong launch. So those who have learned are backing off in that department until these new strengthening developments come to life. That will have its own financial consequences as well unfortunately. But dealing with the right team you should have good insight as to what can and can't be handled at this point within certain limits.
Big recognition goes out to guys like Mark who stick their neck out to help us discover these limits as an independent recreational racer! Whether we push through them or work around them we move forward and have fun!

He has 991's that put out way more power than mine, He also has 991's running around with 997 drive train not sure why you would do this ( because he can! thats why ). So we all have no idea what cars of his are running what setups. I can tell you no one not even Emre has run 148mph in the 1/4 in a 991 with 991 drive train with Vtg's. I'm sure he could go out and beat it tomorrow if he really wants to but for now that record belongs to us over in the states on 1/4 mile track on a regular crap day that anyone could go and race on.
Thanks to Sam and Mitch with Cobb and Dan at Speed Gallery for all you hard work to get to where we are at today.

Go Sam and Mitch, the dynamic duo!
No I am putting in the Stage 3 Champion New(68mm) turbos again. The car had 60 + road coarse days on it, and 46k miles. The only other thing that broke on the car was the left front u joint, boot came loose, at Sebring. ( turn 17 is brutal ). Also, went thru two set of CCB rotors, running steel now.
I will tell you something , 911 TTS are unbelievable durable, i have beat the living crap out the car.
Hello Mark,
Firstly, i'm sorry to see that you had a problem with your transmission.
Hope it will be fixed soon.
I have to chime in to correct a few things about our cars.
We have gone best of 9,51s with 146mph trap speed with 991TT/S.
Full weight street car, with heated OEM seats.
Stock engine, transmission and fuel system.
Full bolt-ons
Our 68mm gen1 VTG upgrade
Race fuel
Then we switched to our Garrett turbo kit, still using same car, we went 9,39s @ 146mph.
We NEVER had transmission problem with our stock engine kits.
I have seen this problem ONLY once, with a car that had 300whp more than your car, power was so much in the beginning of the launch.
We are working on building a billet PDK case for these purpose as well.
The 991TT with Mezger engine is a unique project, it was built on one of my customers special request. He wanted to attend 1/2 mile races and reach above 220mph.
It was done almost 2 years ago, when our 991 engine development was just started.
So we decided to put Mezger engine and sequential transmission to the car,
made them all work with cars electronics etc...
We have built x5 991TT DFI engines so far.
Fastest 1/2 mile tested car went 200mph with PDK transmission.
We developed more upgrades after that, but didnt have chance to test them.
I'm trying to be as clear as i can while posting our results and developments but i'm still seeing posts about our cars or results being ''shady''.
I hope its more clear now.
Regards,
Emre

Thanks Emre it should be up and running as soon as we get the clutch back from Dodson in a week or so. If you never cracked a Pdk until you were putting down more than 1100whp then mine must of been a bad case. This will make me feel a little better next time I go out and light the fuse at the next track event.
Let me just say you are the original Pioneer of the 991 and are still ahead of anyone that I know of that is working on this platform keep it up as it benefits me and every other enthusiast out there. I enjoy reading your post of new records and builds and etc.
As far as 1/4 mile tracks go you cant really compare our wed night or saturday day test and tune track prep to the track prep you guys get over there thats all. I hope you top your 9.51 and 9.39 @146 I figured you would have done that already.
1/2 mile is another story as long as its flat then its pretty much apples to apples, besides wind, air density, altitude we all have good days or bad days for that. Congrats on the 200mph run thats Flying
Keep up the Great work and let me know when you have a PDK case solution.
Cheers Mark
Curious how did the launch feel?
After breaking my CV/axle I vowed never to go back to the strip with anything other than street tires. Like Karl says these cars are unbelievably reliable but when you throw on DRs and a few hundred more HP sh*t can get real.
Hope you are back up quick. Awesome that Sam could source a PDK so quickly.

It wasnt violent I am pretty sure it was ready to check out it just needed 1 more launch. Yea I am blown away with the minimum problems these cars have with the power they put out. You would be amazed at how many stock cars break with no power mods at tracks like Mazda raceway but the Porsches are built right.
Thanks, Sam made it his mission to find a PDK so we could be back up and running again soon.
Have you gone to the track with the GT3 yet? and what track mods are planned for it?

If I really wanted to go for extreme power I would be shipping my car do you for work.
That would have been awesome!!! Good luck!
