991.2 turbo tuning solutions

Hey fellas, looking for tuning solutions for the .2 tt, was leaning towards a cobb/ access port but nothing yet? Does anyone use the Giac tune on these with results? Who else is tuning this platform thus far. Would like a 93 and a 109 map ideally.

DC7391 is infamous around these parts
We are all mostly in line for COBB. Frustrating to say the least. There are some other options but nothing as good as we have seen from COBB on earlier cars.

Spoke to Sam about a week ago and he said 991.2 tune in a few more weeks. Also, think he mentioned that if there was further delay they may release the PDK only tune, which is what I'm interested in.

Hi gentleman. I apologize if we had a miscommunication or misunderstanding. Most of the guys on the forum have been contacting me and I've been telling them we are working on it. No definite dates or time. In a few weeks we plan to have PDK available for the 997.2. Also we may hear some new information at the Sema show coming in a few weeks whichMay shed light on if we are going to have PDK available for the 991.2. I can tell you that for sometime now Cobb have had engineers dedicated to flash tinting for the 991.2 and they are working very hard on it. I personally have quite a long list of very patient gentleman waiting. We all want it and I know they're working on it. Just wanted to touch on that subject. There are a few other solutions out there but no flashing or custom tuning yet.

Best,
Sam

I had a GIAC tune only on my 991.1 a couple years ago and results were incredible. No other mods car was otherwise bone stock. Used the vbox once 0-60 in 2.4, 60-130 in 6.6 flat slope and low 160’s 1/2 mile. Your 991.2 will have quite a bit more power tune only so expect even better performance results. Oh and unless you were WOT you didn’t even know the car was tuned. Just a little more spool sound but otherwise the car behaved just like stock. No issues ever. It’s an amazing bullet proof tune.

Hi Adam,

I would imagine that the 2.4sec 0-60mph was with your R888’s correct?

Hey what’s up brother. I was doing 2.4 with the stock tires with tire pressures in the mid to high 30’s...tune only.

When I did the turbo upgrade I figured the power bump would enduce a lot of tire spin but to my surprise it didn’t and I was still doing 2.4’s. The 991 chassis really gets the power down nicely. Now with the rear r888’s doing consistent 2.3’s. All data is from street surface.

Hey guys, any draw backs of using a piggy back tune? I reached out to Protomotive and he does indeed have a tuning box for this setup gains around 55hp/80tq he said it can have 3 switchable maps and can be removed easily with no way of dealer knowing car was tuned.. looks like I'll be trying it out as soon as I can get this car upto break in mileage lol.

A piggy back works very differently than a flash tune. A flash over-writes the ECU code so the car will make more boost/timing in a fashion that the car would in stock form. A piggy back on the other hand will send signals to the ECU that the boost is lower than what it actually is, forcing the car to respond to make up the perceived deficiency.

I know a few people who have tried different piggy backs on the 991. Some with good results. Others horrible - made the car slower with drivability issues as well. They also tend to get CEL’s / limp modes with a high frequency.

I also never had good luck with piggy backs on my other vehicles. Always went back to flash or stand alone.

It's disappointing and a bit surprising that after 1.5 years on the market, there are very limited tuning options for the 991.2 TS. And besides the PP car from Germany no track results. I understand the PP car is a piggyback. :/ Also some sites claim it has updated turbos and IC, and others say tune and exhaust only.

At least Porsche made it so damn quick from the factory.

I was on a Porsche tour in Provence last month and learned a lot about the software development. Rather intense how they manage that and not surprised that tuners that don't have that level of expertise can't crack it. Porsche operates a network of engineers some at different entities in Germany that work on discrete packages and as they write code they track car at same time to review and refine. Operating system built up from that, which means that tuner wanting to modify anything has major work, not easy.

Car is a monster you have to drive a .2S to understand that and not interested in ecu but a PDK tune raising shift points to 6K would be fun.

the tour was a BLAST!!!
