Radar Detectors...

I have two old Valentine V1 radar detectors that are over 10 years old and dated. I am trying to find out if people are still buying radar detectors and if so which one is the best to buy. I have done a google search and there seems to be no current data on which one is on top. I read that there is a LIDAR laser used by police which uses a small laser beam that may make your radar detector obsolete. I have also read some older surveys that put the Escort Max on top.

Any feed back on what my fellow forum members are doing regarding this topic of avoiding a speeding ticket would be much appreciated... And yes I know driving the limit would take of it... But every once in awhile I just have to let loose even if it is only for a few brief moments!

Thanks,

Jim

PS. If this is in the wrong section please move it... Thanks...

I'm currently using an Escort Max 360 since it has the directional arrow tech. Also BT pairs to my phone app to alert me for speed cameras and speed traps.

i just did the integrated K40 , with the controller in the overhead panel, and lights in dash, it's awesome. 2 diffusers front and one rear, and front and rear radar. i am REALLY happy i did it the way i did. i can mute stuff at specific locations with the GPS and it has a ton of other functions i really like.

Either update your V1s by sending them in (go to Valentine website to see how) or go with the Uniden R3. I'm still partial to Valentine, but hear very good reports on the Uniden. No detector is great against LIDAR. If you are the first car and the cop has good aim, you are screwed. Only a laser jammer can protect you, and they are very expensive and more importantly, not aesthetically pleasing. Best bet is a good radar detector, WAZE, awareness of cop methods, where they hide, and common sense. Haven't gotten a ticket in over 15 years, and that's not because I drive slow...

Best,
Dave

To me, the best defense is common sense on the road and using Waze. Even the latest V1 is older techology.

I've had Passport ZR5, K40, AI priority, V1 over the years in many various cars. For example, today, no detection with newer V1, but did get a warning from Waze driver.

fwiw, for my daily driver, I only use V1 and Waze.

For my other cars with concealed systems, I use them with Waze.

Radenso Pro-M (especially if you have MRCD radar in your area) and ALP with the newer TX sensors for laser defense..

If you feel like you're driving in a way you have to watch for police... Use both a good quality detector AND Waze app on your phone at the same time, the more instant info at your disposal, the better.

Basically fellow Waze users will report and tag things like traffic accidents, slow downs and police speed traps real time and since Waze is a really popular app in most major metropolitan areas, the data is usually accurate and current.

And it's a map app like Google maps so many ppl use it to navigate in lieu of Google Maps.

I find the combination of Waze + radar/laser a powerful combo. Waze is obviously less effective when you're driving out somewhere in the middle of nowhere because there's not enough users passing thru to provide accurate alert data.

Max 360 over V1 any day, better range, greater accuracy, way less false alarms. also has arrows.

The two RD's I'm considering are the Valentine V1 or the Escort Max 360. Is there a independent test that compares these two units.

I have an older V1 that I can upgrade to a newer one and get $110.00 off through their upgrade program. It would be cheaper to go this route but if the Escort Max 360 blows the doors off the V1 then the extra cash would be worth it.

Also is anyone using a mount to put their phone in... Say one that would sit to the right of the center console. I always put my phone in the door compartment but that would not work if I was using Waze.
