Electric cars, though fun and interesting are a political bad joke. They are not viable on a large scale for a society. And having formerly worked for one of the largest PUC's in the nation; I can say this with all candor and just a bit of knowledge in this field. It is nothing but a political tool.
Why? Because it takes four times the energy to generate the electricity (for that "tankful of a 1x charge) to send to a charge station to charge the car; than the energy it takes with a simple tank full of fuel (this fact, not fiction).
Now consider the fact our hands are tied by numerous out-of-control agencies, barring any new generating stations from being built; that this nation has ALREADY needed for at least the past two decades...
Furthermore, it takes a minimum of 4x the infrastructure & transmission lines to carry that load to facilitate this on a large scale than what we have now.
It's hogwash. EV's are a cool concept & fun to drive; but worthless in anything but CLEAN, local environments, and still has a useless storage capacity/range for anything but local driving- nothing much has changed in that regard in 100 years. New cells and all. This is still the barrier; and with our technological advancements since 1910, we still are lacking.

And on top of that... I want to see an ENGINE.

To 1BlinkGone. Are those numbers still current ( 4 x energy cost etc) ??
Also I agree. Electric cars are just a nice market AT BEST and politically created (I know I live in California) by flip-flip wearing, flower-power-toting green-weed-smoking-wacko's. Or at least so it seems.

Hybrids are certainly & undeniably a better option from a standpoint of range than the true EV. I got out of the PUC industry in 2006 before the hybrids really started becoming more common, as they are now. But, Hybrids still have problems or, should I say, weak areas like a regular EV does. That part of the drive train still is sensitive to dirt and dust. The flip side is, you do have increased range over an EV & the hybrid doesn't have to be plugged-in like a regular EV, and they basically generate their own electricity.
However, they are heavier than their all-gas counterparts (which on medium to large vehicles almost cancels-out significant mileage gains); and they have two separate power systems obviously....which means more $$ to maintain and or repair. Yes, I know the warranty on those components is for 100,000 miles or whatever.
One more thing: I'm not saying this to start a debate or ruffle feathers, but if you truly believe we are in danger of running low on fossil fuels, I will sell you the Brooklyn Bridge for a song. As far as being environmentally friendly, when a Porsche engine can put out cleaner air out the tail pipe than the urban air it ingests... well, you know. I just don't see the problem. The avg consumer doesn't realize just how clean today's gas engines run because they are constantly pummeled with negative press about 'evil' gasoline engines. Nor do I buy into the Global Warming group-think. Both of these issues are truly nothing more than political tools to control people.
I am, however, for stewardship of this planet, and am hoping the hydrogen technology (and other sources) will take off. Having said that, the proper technology to do hydrogen properly & efficiently just doesn't exist... quite yet.
Back to the hybrid-vehicle. From what I've seen so far, unless one buys a fairly small hybrid, the small mileage gains realized by the larger hybrids aren't that attractive to get my attention & make it worth my while. That's just my opinion, and everybody is entitled to their own.

Pretty much... if not on the increase. I haven't seen anybody's bill decreasing per kWh have you? lol. And we still are dreadfully shy of proper generation capacity without EV's flooding the mkt.

I like how Ferrari and Lambo make windows so we can see and enjoy their engines and Porsche tucks it away as if it's embarrassed to show us what it looks like. Remember when we thought we'd be seeing CF intakes adorning our engine bays? Well, I guess now there's nothing to show off in the parking lot shows. Next, they'll take the exhaust pipes away from us too Oh well, all will be forgotten and forgiven as long as the performance is top-notch! But PLEASE make the cars sound good.
