Terrible confusion - Leather Interior vs "Dash in Leather" vs Tunnel vs Console

On the old 997.2 ordering system when in the configuration if you select seat type you can choose "Leather interior". This gave you , historically, a leather dash. You could add a leather console - PERIOD.

With the 991 configurator you can still choose leather interior (full leather) and then under OPTIONS choose "Additional Interior Package, LEATHER DASH" for $1750. So what gives? What is this second item if I already chose Leather interior?

This is the thing that keeps me awake at night - the VAST array of ordering options. It's terrible. I don't mean the leather radio **** and air vent BS. I'm referring to the fact that they split the dash, center console, rear center tunnel, and seats into 4 different items. Granted your dealer is there to help you but a lot of the time they are confused too and have to make calls. My last Porsche was brutal. There WAS leather seats, extended leather, then leather center console...now there is a leather option for the back seat tunnel on the 991. I can also ADD "CENTER CONSOLE IN LEATHER". What? I didn't get that when I checked "Leather Interior" on page 1? Where does the dash end and the center console begin, and then the rear center tunnel? Is that not included in the front center console? Isn't it a flowing piece?

The ability to miss something you wanted is ENORMOUS. Porsche needs to see this. It's enough to cause me to look at other cars - honestly - and I'm a porsche fan and previous owner. (3rd porsche).

I agree, very confusing. I thought when the "second choice' is chosen, and it conflicts with a previous choice, a warning box comes up. It does on some options, not sure on the leather options. It would be nice if the configurator would "color" the picture of the part you are choosing. Look at the bright side, at least we have these choices. P-car's are very customizable.

agreed about the advantages of customization - but it's the scary thought about missing that ONE item and porsche will allow you to screw yourself They'll just figure you were one of those flakes who "wanted it to look odd".

I also agree about the configurator too - It might be broken because it should be throwing up warning dialogues upon redundancy of chosen leather options.. Does anyone know what LEATHER INTERIOR means on the SEAT selector page? And how far it goes? When you get into the Leather options page you can add a biggie called "leather dash" which is pricey at $1750. That seems like a major item - not some trim around the dash speaker grills. I THINK this is the whole dash. But why is it allowing me to buy this when I already have LEATHER INTERIOR?

FYI I just found out that on the SEAT page - when you choose an available seat type, and choose FULL LEATHER you are getting it all - dash down thru console and into the back seat tunnel. Partially my fault for not noticing it. But MOSTLY Porsches fault for letting you add the full leather option and then ALLOWING you to re-add it piece by piece in the leather options line-item page - thereby allowing redundant options and redundant $ total. Then look at your summary page after configuring and the total doesn't jive with your listed items. Not a big deal financially - but it confuses what your are actually getting...

Anyhoot - here is what you get when you choose "FULL LEATHER"

FULL LEATHER OPTION:
Covered in smooth-finish leather in interior color:
- front seat centers
- front seat side bolsters
- front headrests
- front seat backrests*
- steering wheel rim
- airbag module on steering wheel
- gearshift lever
- center console storage compartment lid
- center console side section
- dashboard top incl. instrument cluster cover
- dashboard bottom incl. glove compartment lid
- door handles
- door armrests and paneling
- door paneling top section
- door panel inserts
- rear seat centers
- rear seat bolsters
- rear side paneling
- center tunnel cover in rear

* Not seat backs.

And A-B pillars are Alcantara.

It takes two threads to straighten this out:

The full leather interior is as "full" on the 991 as it is on the 997. The other leather options are additional to the full leather option. They mostly replace the aluminum trim with leather. There are parts of the dash, door panels, console, etc. that are alternate materials to leather, even in the full leather interior. These can be standard aluminum-painted trim or replaced with carbon fiber, wood, brushed aluminum, body color or in your case — more leather. Look at the info and pictures provided with each option and it will become clear.

I hear you - but the confusion wasn't the "where is the leather" but rather the broken configurator on the website that was allowing you to double up on the same thing - hence I wasn't sure where leather was since I could add it as a whole and then double it up ala cart and get double billed - see the other thread.

You're still not getting it. It is two different leather options. Look at the dashboard. It has a bullnose padded leading edge. Full leather interior gets that in leather. Now add the option you chose next: leather dash (defroster surround and dash end caps—that takes the leather dash all the way to the windshield and door panels). You can also add interior leather package (trim strips and cup holder trim) and leather vent covers for additional money. They are not the same and your dealer is wrong if he told you that. There are pictures of each of those add-ons to the full leather interior. Just look and read the descriptions. You'll see when you study it.

That's not to say the configurator is always right but they correct it when they discover their error. For instance, at first and for about a month, you could choose adaptive sport seats with full leather and then add on from the package options the premium package plus with adaptive sports seats and it charged for both. They corrected this.

No. I get it. I understand that there are different dash items that you outlined. I am saying that they aren't 1,710. And I'm saying the configurator is broken too, price wise. MY DEALER AND I AGREE. He says ignore the tool. "it's broken".

First world problems.... Ordering my new Porsche is too complicated!

In all seriousness, I get it and it is pretty confusing. Just saw a humorous angle to your frustration.

You may be right, but in my experience, when the dealer says to ignore something, they are usually wrong. Dealers seem to be error prone. My friend and I have had several cars come in wrong after listening to the dealer.

Always double check the dealer.

You are VERY right and W00tporsche can attest to my woes in regard to that^^^.

So basically I am doing ALL my homework with the assistance of the forum here as well as the dealer. I think I've nailed everything and all my questions are answered...EXCEPT: Is bluetooth not standard equipment? It "TELEPHONE MODULE" the only way to get BT?

I will start a thread on this. I think it is the only way.

You're right, best confirm it yourself. I'll check around too. This board is the best way to find the correct answer.

My interpretation of the $1,750 dash leather option is that it addresses the forwardmost part of the top of the dash, the part that juts up against the windshield. The option makes it leather with decorative stitching. That's how it was on my 997. I ordered it and like it a lot. It looks nice from the outside.
