Steering wheel vibration
Steering wheel vibration
I have a 2016 GT speed. It’s an amazing car but I’ve been dealing with a steering wheel vibration for the last year.
Ive made the dealership replace both front shocks, the steering rack and I’ve had the control arms replaced in the past all under Bentley extended warranty. I’ve had all 4 wheels straightened as much as possible. I’ve bought 2 sets of new tires both of which are Michelin.
The vibration gets worse when going above 70 and turning the steering wheel, as in changing lanes on the highway. It feels like the steering wheel is quivering when turning the wheel.
just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what this could possibly be. Thinking about pursuing legal action due to the amount of money I’ve spent without a fix.

A vibration that gets worse above 70 will usually be something rotating: tyre, brake disc, wheel, wheel bearing, front drive axles, or front CV joints.
Was it doing it immediately after replacing the tyres? Or only after a while? If the car doesn't get much use, it could be flat-spotting the tyres (even if they're new).
Initially there was a vibration present at all times, then the shop changed my front right shock and after that, I noticed a vibration when turning the wheel/changing lanes at highway speeds. I will try asking them to turn the rotors as I did have those done recently as well.
A different steering angle isn't going to change much with respect to the tyres, wheels, or brake rotors (unless your bearings are completely shot, but presumably the dealer would have noticed that).
A different steering angle *will* change where the load is on the front CV joints. Presumably there's a way to check them for wear?
(Brake rotors usually show up as a vibration when braking.)

Did you have a highway vibration that worsened when moving the steering wheel left or right?

Yes. Intermittent and barely audible at first, and it got gradually worse as usual with a problem like this. I just noticed a couple of days ago that a similar faint noise has returned, this time from the rear, accompanied with a slight vibration at highway speeds. An educated guess is passenger side rear wheel bearing at this point. Fortunately these are very easy to replace and available as aftermarket replacement parts for €58 each as a kit with the flange, €35 without. There's no point in paying €500 or more for OEM, it's a VW Phaeton / Audi A8 item (4E0498625B, 4F0598625A, 4E0498625D, 4E0407625D and so on).
