991 Carrera S body width - fat!

I hope this wasn't covered - I did a quickie search and didn't see anything...

According to the Porsche website, the new 991 Carrera S is 71.18" wide at it's fattest point NOT INCLUDING mirrors.

..and the Carrera 4S widebody (997.2) 2011 is 71.18" wide INCLUDING mirrors.

I'm happy to hear that the 991 RWD car is a fat hipped thing. I know they've stretched the car and it's squashed it a bit - but I wasn't sure the dimensions exactly.

I sure hope the car is wider! It appears to be wider according to the numbers stated above! I've had a Turbo before and was concerned the new 991S I have on ordered will look too "skinny" from the rear, thus forcing me to wish I just picked up a 2011 997TT slightly used for the same $.

Its wider but from what I have heard the C4/S will get even wider. Nuts.

+1, they have stretched the front track but not the rear track in the new 991 C2S compared to the 997 C2S. so it doesn`t really make sense.

I concur

This would mean the car alone is what - 10-inches wider? I figure the 997 mirrors were at least 5-inches a piece..

Can't be.

Data on vehicle dimensions published in German magazines sport auto and auto, motor und sport show that the widths of the 991 and 997 Carrera Ss are identical. The front track of the 991 is wider, but the widest part of the car remains the rear fender. Thus we should expect that future 991 versions of the turbo, C4 and GT3RS and GT2 will have greater rear width at the rear fender.

^^Hansgt2 is correct. The 991 is exactly the same width in the rear as the 997.

Interesting. I tend to believe that more than the porsche website due to the simply enormous figures listed there. Thanks!
