SM_ATL's Carrera S Journal
Yes, they are loud. I would never run them on the street. I only put them before track days and then trailer the car to the track
I've been running the RS29s on the BBK for a track weekend at Road America and they seem to show hardly any wear....they did make a lot of noise in commuting traffic...now switched to HP2000 for the street and love them. Hated the ferodos even for the street.
Getting the GIAC ECU software installed this week / over the weekend. Requires my dealer to ship the ecu to GIAC.
Having a dyno graph run before and after, so will be interesting ...
Btw - I do like the R888s. Looking for an economical way to put 165s in the front for next season ....

Is the software available for the power kit? What are their claims? Are you able to get your car dynoed with PDK?
Thanks,

Attached an image of the dyno run they sent me for a regular 991s without the X51, but with a different exhaust....
Should have my own dyno comparison next week, so will post...

Hi Tom
The Z06 has a lot more torque and is therefore more fun throughout the rev range and at full song it sounds like the big, bad wolf is going to huff and puff until it blows your house down. The engine/exhaust notes are truly epic.
The 991S X51 has much better front and rear grip, predictable handling and fantastic acceleration from 4000rpms on up. Throttle response is much better. Heel and towing in the Z06 was rendered obsolete by virtue of poor throttle response. (single overhead cam, 2 valves per cylinder ). Accelerating through the rev range is quicker in the 991. Brakes are about even.
Fit and finish, quality of materials and execution are far superior in the 991 and road noise is far more prevalent in the Z06. One of the inherent problems in the Corvette design is the rear hatch back configuration which transmits a tremendous amount of road noise. The Burmester in the Z06 would havebeen a waste of money.
Looking forward to your impressions of the new software.

Tom - mine was a '07 with 505 HP and 470 lb, tq. and weighed less than 3200 LBS.
**** happens!
Sorry to get back to the 991 thread (just kidding guys, I enjoyed the 991/'Vette discussion
).
Long story short: great week end, nice video's (in some future post) good lap times (now down to 1:38s and the car has potential to go even faster) -in safe conditions of course, DE's are not meant to race or beat the stopwatch-... until Sunday evening and the last track session.
I was not doing anything crazy, no 'red mist' of any kind, but maybe misjudgment from my side: getting into turn 6, I saw some smoke and no yellow flag. I slowed down and assumed that the guy in front of me had simply locked his brakes. Bad call: his engine blew up and he started spilling oil on the track. I could/should have slowed down sooner, but I am not sure it would have changed the outcome. Would really have liked for the corner marshall to wave a yellow or yellow/red flag though (especially since the other car had spun after the turn...).
Car on its way to the dealership. Hopefully only paint and a bit of bodywork. More to follow.

Thanks to you all for your kind words!
Yes, it is part of the game when you track the car and I knew the risk (and hence have track insurance).
I went off track 3 times this year: 1st two times without consequences: after switching tires @ VIR and hydroplaning @ Road A, and 3rd time, not really my fault, but with more serious -fixable- damage to the car. I can feel I am building my skills and speed more and more, but it also means that the consequences of my mistakes -or uncontrollable circumstances- will get bigger and bigger. Is tracking my DD 991S really the best choice? The car is stupid fast, and provides tons of fun, in a word, the 991 is AMAZING!.
On the other hand, I took my son's 1995 E36 BMW M3 for an hour on the track Saturday night and had a lot of fun too. I was going much slower (about ~1:55 vs 1:38) and still need to learn the car better. The stable chassis, absence of nannies (manual, no ABS, no traction control) made it very involving. Maybe I'll alternate between 'fast & fun' weekends with the 991 and 'slow but all out' week ends with the M3
Time for more introspection
