You are right, putting things in perspective, this is no big deal. A very nice guy from the local PCA helped me getting my car towed sunday night and told me about a fatality that occurred in 2010 at CMP: http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=197619

This is really a horrific story and may explain the fact that PCA has become a lot more cautious over the past few years. It also shows that even with all necessary precautions, the worst can happen. It also underlines the fact that having a vehicle in perfect condition is a MUST. There is no on-site tech inspection that can take care of it 100% so it really comes down to the sense of responsibility of the car owners.

+1. And beyond that it illustrates why it is important to have a competent flag and safety crew on site for every run. Accidents are by definition unexpected, and such support is as essential a part of fast track driving as careful full inspections, track looksee inspections, fresh brake fluid and good mechanicals. I spent several years as an SCCA National steward and saw my share of tragedy averted due to solid corner work.

Dropped by at the body shop to check on the car yesterday. Took a few pics...

The car had been partially taken apart to check on any possible damage. Not too many things to replace but gravel is the enemy (well, it still stopped me on the track, so maybe it is not so bad after all). If anything has been scratched by the gravel, it will be replaced and they will even remove the dash to chase the last piece of gravel that could have fallen in the vents.

I got a very positive impression about Performance Auto Collision. They seem very professional and had a very good answer to all of my questions.
More to follow in the coming days...

Damn. I'm glad you have a great body-shop. I agree with a previous poster, soon this will be a memory you can laugh about while having a beer. Your car will be like new in no time, Serge!

Thx for the offer! I'll be there as a spectator and will park the GTI I am driving somewhere else (I was going to sell it a few weeks ago. Good thing I did not have the time, it will come handy waiting for the 991).

See you there!

Thanks,
Actually, turns out that my Porsche dealer's dyno doesn't work with the 991 PDK ... they tried for 3 days; some software issue, finally gave up and just sent in the ECU. So no nice before/after dyno. Will get a dyno done somewhere, but won't have the full comparison unfortunately. Anyone have dyno'ed their 991?

I had the same experience and only one shop in the area had a dyno which they 'thought' could work OK with the 991 (not exactly sure, but I think the front and rear rolls have to be perfectly in sync otherwise non-defeatable PSM/PDK features would limit the engine output).
Still, they were asking $300 to give it a try

Car at the shop ready for the appraiser...

While I was there I noticed another 991 that was at Road Atlanta last weekend.

The damage did not come for the track but from a valet... who had tried to dissimulate it (opening the door while standing in front the of rear quarter panel)

A new 991 rear quarter panel had just been delivered. It was amazing to feel how light the body parts are

Let's see how things go with the insurance tomorrow...

Good luck with the appraiser!

Wow!

I'm really sorry to see this, Serge, but I'm really glad you weren't hurt. I'm also happy to hear that you found a capable repair shop.

Best of luck with everything, Serge. And don't forget to post up some pictures when your baby is like new again.
