SM_ATL's Carrera S Journal
Thanks again for the update SM. The spoiler looks great when the stock spoiler is closed. I'm conflicted on the looks when it's open though.
Out of curiosity, i thought you're going to have the inner lip black.

Regarding the black lip, there is no well defined edge for the lip part and I was afraid that the paint tape job would not be perfect so we decided to go all white.
Love at first sight
Incidentally dropped by at my local dealer (Henessy) yesterday and saw this beauty in the show room (Black GT3 RS 4.0 with only 1,000 miles, never tracked
):

Back to another thread, yes I would trade my 991 in for THIS 997... if I could afford it ($100k more than what I paid my 991S).
My salesman (David) was kind enough to let me get my hands all over it. He's been a great support in my dealings with Porsche and hope he will sell this beauty and make a buck on it

Spoiler looks fantastic, down.
I agree on conflicted when up. But understand the point of function over form when up.
Here's a thought, a Speedart or similar spoiler that attaches to extensions of the the lift mechanism through the stock spoiler -- so as to lift the "Speedart" part while leaving the stock spoiler down.
Looking forward to the promised more pics...

One negative point with the spoiler up is that it wobbles at high speed (too much downforce/turbulences for the OEM spoiler up). I'll check what I'll do with my shop when I am back.
Back from the track...
Last week end at Barber Motorsporstspark was a blast and the 991S performed beyond my expectations. I'll have a lot of pics and videos to post over the next few days, but heres what pertains to the car (re)build

As already explained on several websites and in magazines, a 991S can be as fast as a 997TT. Here are a couple of pics illustrating it:
991S chasing the tail of a 997TT...

...and then passing it

My friend in the 997TT and I are both 'intermediate' drivers with similar skills and experience, so I think it is a fair comparison of both cars. Sure the 997TT pushes a bit harder in the straights, but the 991S is hard to beat in slower sections of the track.
The 991 always remains remarkably planted:

Even when getting a little sideways...

Sad thing is that there is no free lunch
Here's what is left of my 1 week old Michelin PSS's:

I ran too high in pressure at some time and very hot during the day. Instead of ruining street tires, i am getting a dedicated set of track rims. We checked the clearance of 18" Victor Innsbrucks that will be fitted with Toyo R888.

18" may seem a bit small, but 19" or 20" track tires that fit the 991 specs are almost, if not completely, impossible to find. This combination should be light, work well, not disturb the PSM (relative front and rear wheel circumferences and contact surface) and remain affordable.
The track rims will be painted GT3RS red
My -new- brakes suffered a lot too and front pads have partially burnt. I clearly lost breaking power at the end of the week end. My shop is looking at it today.
Finally, the sports seats are no match for what the chassis can do so I have Porsche checking on GT2 bucket seats retrofit asap.
Next track time is next Monday at Road Atlanta. Hope to get everything figured out by then.
PS: One other collateral damage was the loss of the (replicas) center caps. With the wheels getting very hot and expanding, the caps simply fell from the wheels. I found three but one will remain MIA. Going back to OEM. There is no substitute !!!

Wow very agressive stance. IMO the perfect ride height for a track car. not quite sure for a DD.
Maybe I will pass on H&R (Speedart) lowering springs this time.
Great thread, thanks!

Great thread, thanks!
My pleasure, hope it helps others like me who are looking at improving and tracking their 991 and who find out that there are not many options for the moment.
Still, a fantastic car!

Short track video...
This happened when I had my GoPro attached at the back of my car. One of my friends was behind me in his 997 C2S and my line was not optimum but I manage to save it in the turn. Unfortunately, he kept following me instead focusing on his own trajectory (a mistake that we all do one day...). No consequences fortunately!
