Heat gun (or basic air dryer) for the win!!! Completed the job in half the time on the passenger side. Very happy with the door sills!

Now I must be strong. Repeat with me: "I am strong, I can resist, I will not order the MA Carbon sills". Again and louder!!!

Hi SM_ATL

Having had a MKV GTI (APR K04) and having tracked it rigorously, you would be surprised how well it will do on the track against much more expensive more track oriented cars
Especially if you take weight out of the car
I had an instructor with a 997 CS and on my second day at RA I was within 2 seconds of his time in the 997CS
My car still was a full street car with 320whp/320wtq and Stoptech BBK
Tires were on both cars the same PS2 Cups

If you ever plan going that route, let me know I had some custom idea's that I never realized, because I sold the car

Mike

Me as well. Just missed a track weekend at VRI I have wanted to do all year because of Hurricane Sandy. Had a 150 year old tree hit the house, no power or heat, and could not just abandon the family. (even if I wanted to, the tree was across the driveway so could not get the car out) We are all fine, the house will be fixed, and compared to many, we are very, very lucky! But seeing pictures like yours are good consultation.

Thank you!

Oh man sorry to hear about that but I'm glad you and yours are OK!
Some reports say there's as many as 200.000 cars where destroyed by Sandy... I'm glad to hear your new baby wasn't part of them.

Too bad! Happy to read you are all doing OK (cars being intact is a bonus ).
I also had to cancel Virginia earlier this year -for much less legitimate reasons- and definitely have it on my list for 2013!! See you there maybe

I read back when you put the 200 cats on the 991 and then pulled them off when you had your first CEL. What did you do? Did they ever go back on? I want to add PSE and was thinking about some 200 cats at the same time.

Long time, no post on this thread! I've been pretty busy with the 996 project...
So while cleaning up my hard drive this week end, I found some material from a kind of drag race event ('1/2 mile shootout') organized last September by wannaGOFAST.com at the Heaven’s Landing Airport in Clayton, Ga.

Call me a snob, but I have little interest in drag race events: driving flat out in a straight line for a few seconds before slamming the brakes has never got my adrenaline level higher than an episode os Sesame Street (except if Big Bird would get fired of course ).

This event was very nice though, not because of the driving itself, but because of the beautiful scenery, the friendly crowd and participants and a number of interesting cars. Naturally aspirated Porsches are not really brilliant at this type of exercise: they are cars to be driven, stellar during track days, but very average on a drag strip. The 991S did not do so bad though with a speed of about 139 mph at the 1/2 mile mark. I'll take ZERO credit for that: with the launch control, PDK in Sport Plus and just going WOT, runs were incredibly consistent (ranging from 138.27 to 139.58 mph).

As a reference, a 997S with manual gearbox did an average of 127 mph (same average as a venerable Chevy Bel Air that you'll see in the attached video - OK, it was not stock!) and Freed Performance was there with a 775hp tuned 997TT and hit 148 mph. The faster car of the day was A TopSpeed GT-R at 190.0 mph.
Like on the track, GT-R's can't help being party poopers

Here's a quick video of my participation put together with the help of the kids:

Thanks a lot to Sean Freed for his issue with the launch control of the 'FP775' that made the launch of the 991 look pretty cool... even if I got eventually spanked (he passed the line at ~147 mph).

Here's the video footage from the event by wannaGOFAST.com:

I may go back again next year (not to break any record as I'll probably be within a few tenths of this year) but just for the fun of a sunny day with other petrolheads!

A quick pic of my 991 in action to wrap up this post. As beautiful as ever -in all humbleness-

That's funny!!!

Great video, thanks for posting.
BTW I really think you should include this pic somewhere (maybe in your signature...)

That just made me laugh hehehe
BTW did you run into any clips of the different exhaust setups you've been through with your 991?
I'm kinda curious how the 200 cell cats with the PSE sounds and of course the AP side muffler by-pass.

Cheers!

You have enough spares and bits and pieces to build another P car...

First breakdown of my 991

Nothing major, the horn just stopped working. I noticed it when somebody cut me off on the Interstate, fortunately without consequences!

The car is at the dealership for 5 days as there were 5 open campaigns for it. I do not have all the details yet, but the most time consuming issue is the WC25 'reworking body seal' as it seems that some front body seals were 'omitted' in early 991 builds. The car has to go to a bodyshop to get this fixed.

So I'll be in a Cayenne until next week.

No, it has to do with Porsche's fleet EPA ratings. If a car can be programmed to always be in Sport/PSE mode then Porsche would lose the ability to included the higher, non-sport MPG ratings in its overall EPA fleet numbers.
