After reading SM_ATL's experience getting his SiriusXM subscription up and running, as well as my own experience (they really are confused), I was curious how other 991 owners were faring.
If you own a 991, I'd be very curious to hear:
1) If your SiriusXM was working when you got your car (mine was not).
2) If your NAV data was working/included in your trial subscription (was not...is now).
3) How long your trial subscription is for.
4) Which subscription you ended up with (mine is 'select' I believe, which is most stations, no Howard).
The 991 owner's manual actually says the customer has to set up the trial subscription, but what I am hearing/reading seems to suggest that activation is part of the preparation process at the dealership prior to delivery.

...and there goes the traffic nav data.
After a few days the traffic data stopped working. Previous an agent at SiriusXM told me that my trial period included traffic data. I called back and guess what? Now it doesn't!
Their customer support is famously bad and I knew they wouldn't disappoint me by being consistent or helpful.
How are they still in business?

Ditto for me but I didn't spring for the Burmester to improve it either. Rather listen to my vinyl at home. Car is good for ESPN mostly or Apple lossless off my iPhone.
Cheers.

By the way, a SiriusXM tech was going to call me within 10
days to fix the issue and there was no way to proceed otherwise.
12 days have passed, no one has called, still no traffic.

I've ordered a 991 CS cab, so i did not get sat. radio. In all my coupes I have owned, I got the standard radio setup, ripped it all out and put customstuff for half the price. If you expect that any sound put out by our beloved German engineers is going to be good, save your dough

Speaking of that, here's an update on my progress with SiriusXM reinstating my traffic data. After it worked for 3 days, then got magically shut off they opened a ticket to reactivate it. They said it would be 7-10 days. A month later, and many failed promises, the ticket is still open and each time I call them it is a festival of incompetence. Their customer support really has to be experienced to be believed.
I wish there was an alternative to feed traffic data to my PCM nav system.
XM traffic in my 09 997S, to be blunt, sucks!
Waste of money IMHO.
I assumed the traffic maps would overlay the regular map, not require a separate window.
I rarely pay any attention to it.
I do love XM for it's other programming, though.
I suggest you ***** again, ask to be connected to a higher authority, suggest you would like money back and would like to cancel, the may very well reduce the fee considerably and get things straightened out, and, You need to talk to an American operative!!

BUMP!
SiriusXM traffic is still not working on my 991S... and I even received a letter telling me the trial period had expired.
Either Porsche does not care about their customers (would be surprising, but we know for a fact it is the case for SiriusXM), either the most incompetent people are trying to make this their unique task for 2012.
Anyway, it simply unacceptable and appalling.
SiriusXM service(?) is the worst on the market and Porsche should find better ways to provide traffic information than thru SiriusXM.

I finally got my traffic turned back on, and my trial started over, on the last days of my free trial.
The process involved many calls to their support center, always asking for a supervisor at an opportune moment. Each time was totally different, but eventually I got one to open a technical ticket to add traffic to my trial. They said it would take 7-10 days. It took 2 months (I had totally given up). But they finally did get it turned on.
It is hard to imagine that their stock price is up 25% this year. With a mandate like that I'm afraid there will be no talking sense to them, by Porsche or otherwise.
Good Luck!
