The new 991 C4S!!
Hey don't knock it!
It's got 15K km on it and an extended Ferrari warranty.
Plus a buddy of mine has a full M16 Scuderia appearance package + rims for it (cost him 25K+) which he's giving it to me for less than 15K... AWESOME!
That said, even with the very attractive Scuderia refresh it is an older design which is starting to look dated next to the 458....
Whereas the 991 is as fresh as it gets...a clean canvas if you will, which will give me the joy of many, many custom project.
So the 991 C4S it is!

Hmmmm.... that 'investment' should have gone into additional options. Is it too late to return the ring and see 'how locked' is your order? - ha ha ha.
I thank my lucky star daily that mine prefer cars over jewelry. But I am sure what you did works really well. ; D
But I think many here can verify that waiting 9 months to a year for a car that keeps getting pushed back can certainly make one obsessive and very frustrated to the point where you seriously start looking at other options.... futile or not.
Not everyone has the patience and constitution to wait that long.
As to "I do not deserve a 991 (design wise)"... I'm not sure what that means but it doesn't sound very nice nor funny.
I'd say that the F430 Scuderia spider is about as sexy as they come... design wise...

I've owned a F360 spider before so I've had the F experience with all the good and the bad... I just realized that I'm in a different part of my life where temperament, flash and (often too much) attention is not what I'm looking for in a toy.... that said I'm always going to enjoy/love Ferrari and will never say a bad word about it but all things being equal I'm sticking with the class, understatement and more "engineered" thrill I get from the Porsche 911, especially with that new exhaust note and ***** to the wall 991 performance and handling... oh and of course that Jekyll & Hyde personality!
Comparatively the 991 may be understated but... it's absolutely intoxicating!
sry .. my smiley says it all ..... but Ferrari only in original look please .... not with 25k in spoilers .....
I ordered my 4S on the 26th of October .... pick-up in Zuffenhausen is on the 15th of Februray 2013. I ordered mine at a Porsche dealer with a free allocation quota in December 2012 ... asked three dealers until I found one ...
But I understand your discontent !
Best

Hehehehe you're right ofcourse but... this one was build in June so if it wasn't for the 458 taking over this 430 would have likely been a 2010 model... at least that's what my sales guy said when I was huffing and puffing about not wanting to buy a 2009 and the 2010 458 Spider being in a totally different price category.
I've know him for a looooong time so it was all tong and cheek but it did work to the point I even referred to it here as a 2010... guess it stuck!
Next was rounding down the price... several times.
Then how easy it would be to update the Scuderia look (righttttt hehehe)
Then of course the worry free F. extended warranty!
It was still the wrong color but... that made it less flashy.
Yup all my concerns had vanished and my frustration had given way to excitement...then it started to snow... and said to myself wtf am I doing!?
Oooooh boys will be boys!
Hey CONGRATS buddy!!
We sometimes forget the positive impact our woman have on our lives and the fact that they accept and understand our idiosyncrasies as they relate to our Porsche's.
Not to mention the inevitable 2 hr "milk runs", frequent visits to our garage, "pro-active drive style" and that sport+ is not a button but an emotion and PSE a place called "WOWWWW" hehehe.
Oh and lets not forget the "you want me to film you driving like a hooligan because....6what!"
LOL I think are women deserve everything that makes 'm happy... although those damn anniversaries do keep getting more and more costly!
I can tell you that also applies to the length of the wait for your new toy... lets just say I found out it actually works in 3 month periods, yep I can't believe it every quarter!
Man I hope we get our cars soon!!!
I have to say the best exhaust note of all the cars I've test driven was the Maserati GT-S hands down!
Man that thing sounds amazing and you can work it like a musical instrument without having to drive like a hooligan... it even sounds good in 2nd gear doing 40kmp.
But my second would be a tie between the F430 and.... the 991 with PSE (in sport+!).... I know I can't believe I'm actually saying it!
3rd would be the SLS AMG... a monster to be sure.
All that said, I'm happy I'm sticking with the 991...PORSCHE there is no substitute!

; D. 430 still looks pretty good, but you are right, it is very dated next to 458. My guess is the engine note alone makes you forget everything else. I am sure 430 will do just fine in the snow and rain. ; D. For me, the choice is clear between a 4s and an 8 years old body style.

Alright, here's a scoop for you guys!
I was talking with (my) two mechanics and service manager at the P. dealer (whom went to Germany for the 991 training) about what type of custom project we could do on the C4S and I mentioned that as much as I loveeee the PSE it almost sounded a little to "nice"... it's missing a bit of that "nasty" if you will.
Low and behold, they told me that is because all the tones are controlled by the ECU... effectively filtering out anything above a certain dB and or frequency.
When the PSE is engaged the valve is not just open but rather works like a valve in a musical instrument continuously opening and closing to different degrees...
This would explain why there are no tones or frequencies which "scream" or are just a little obnoxious... as per the hooligan parameters.
It would be a fairly simply thing to by-pass the ECU (2 hrs labor simple...
) but that it required a separate "toggle" switch.
Now I'm not crazy about having a separate switch hidden away on a brand new 991 (certainly not a toggle switch) so with a bit of pushing the "electrical specialist" said he could put in a relay to make the stock PSE switch functional with the ECU by-pass instead of the "toggle"... for another 2 hrs of labor of course.
At $140,- p/hr + supplies and taxes it would be about $800,- for something that I may not find that big of a difference or worse... may not like!
That said... the PSE design is basically like a small resonance chamber connected to an X-pipe, making it a straight-pipe of sorts when the valves are fully opened....
In other words if you look at the flow dynamics it should be LOUD... Certainly a lot louder than it is, especially at higher rpm's...
Soooo what do you guys think?
Sighhhh I think I just talked myself into it... again!
