The new one looks way better than the old one. I've heard very few say otherwise. In saying that neither is any raving glamour in the styling department, but at least the new one looks and feels far more luxuriant than the earlier version by quite a lot. In my humblest of opinions i think the X5 sport holds the gong for exterior looks on the high end Euro SUV's. I just wish Porsche would stop trying to make this 4000lb truck look like a 911 and just give it it's own look. I'm sure they could make a better fist out the exterior looks if they just let go....and let a 911 be a 911 and a Cayenne be a Cayenne.

I have not heard of any major issues with the new model but I will admit I do not keep close eyes on it.

I test drove one recently before going another fun car route and was impressed with the power (an S) and refinement. IMO much better than the previous series.
Agree the general interior quality is of the same level but outside of that i fail to see the Cayennes interior as being anything like 991. 991 would be more of a take off of the pana....but Cayenne.....hmm....nope....can't see it.

On the reliability stakes i would say most of these suv's have had their share of electrical gremlins.....some cars more than others. But this wouldn't apply to every solitary one thats been sold. And that would not be hurting sales anyway. i just cant see that. If someone wants a Cayenne they buy one. After all they know Porsche is at least capable of taking care of any issues that do arise....unlike certain other brands.

BTW, if ordering a cayenne I would recommend nothing less than a turbo and unlike the 911, PDCC would be a must.
Ohhhh dearrr...aamersa!! Not another hole digging exercise! What are we going to do with you? Where on earth do you come up with these ridiculous recommendations of yours? From personal ownership of all the variants? So, what you are effectively saying now is unless you buy the highest end version of any model available then all other models underneath the turbo aren't worthwhile? Man that's total nonsense. Quite frankly in an SUV that weighs as much as a Cayenne you'd be far better off in a bloody diesel or a hybrid with the supercharged 6! At least that way you have some travelling range between fuel stops. Needless to say the atmo V8 S is quoted as the sweeter drive by far than the turbo anyway....and the pick for the rev head. And the diesel drives great as does the hybrid... plenty of power and acceleration for a truck of this size and heft. The turbo drinks like a fish when you get up it....and a very thirsty fish at that! Sure it's got the ultimate straight line acceleration, but beyond that.... what is there really?

aaahh ..jeesh ...i give up on you man .

That'd be more like it. It'd be the demand outstripping the supply capability. Nothing more...nothing less .

Correct on all points. Huge power turbo engines on heavy SUVs are just silly for most people who drive them.

My local dealer can't keep the Cayenne and Panamera in stock. Sales of those do seem limited by supply.

The 911 sales show a big bump, though it's presumably a combination of 997 and 991 sales.

I predict that that 991 will sell well, especially if the economy continues to improve, though I do think the 991 will face serious competition from the new Boxster/Cayman.

The new Cayenne looks superb, agreed, the only thing that could be improved is the (Korean-style) taillights, but they can fix them with the facelift.
as far as the Cayenne`s styling is concerned and the 911 DNA on it, let´s see how the Macan will look like. Porsche surely does not want it to be just a smaller Cayenne and hopefully tries to give it its own character, like they did with the new gen. boxster/cayman.

Since we are bit off topic here in the 991 forum, what do you guys think of the new macan that is about be launched by porsche?
It's supposed to be a cross between a suv and sports car ( if that is at all possible). I think it is funny, much funnier than I can be.

I am not saying the lesser variants are rubbish or not worthwhile, just that I get excited the most when I see the monster variant of any class of vehicle. So the highest end variant is worth it to me for the andrenalin rush it provides vs. the more common lower powered variants out there.

I can understand that point of view, but another thing to consider is that, on public roads, it's more feasible to use the full rev range of a less powerful car, and thus drive the crap out of it. Taking a monster variant to its limits can lead to trouble. I took the Cayman R out for a spin today and, as usual, had a hard time keeping under 2x the speed limit, and sometimes hitting 3x (empty country roads, and taking safety very seriously).

For what it is worth, when I was in the market for one a year ago, the base model was the hardest to get. There was a wait list and nothing off MSRP. The easiest way into one was through an S, turbo, or hybrid. All with prices close to or over 100k.
