Congratulations. great choice in 7spd. I personally think a PSE is a must. You will not regret it as it can be turned off, when not needed.

I disagree on the PSE. The standard exhaust on the 991 is identical to the PSE on the 997 and it sounds great. I drove a 991 with/without PSE and the PSE in my opinion was obnoxiously loud and unnecessary. I prefer to hear natural engine noises rather than artificial sounds piped in. GREAT choice on the 7spd manual. I have read several posts from actual owners who took delivery of their cars and they say the shift linkage feels much like a short shift kit on the 997 and is very satisfying to drive. One may also argue they will hold value better due to their rarity.

I have read here, 991 w/o PSE is in between 997 and 997 with PSE. I have only driven a 991 PDK S without PSE. It sounded much better than stock 997 but not close to a 997 GTS which has PSE. I drove both on the same day.

It is a personal choice and the fact it can be turned off, when not needed makes it appealing to me over a Gundo hack.

And the 991 PSE is actually louder and meaner than the 997 GTS PSE and the rumour that the 991 standard exhaust is equivalent to 997 PSE is utter nonsense.

Any feedback welcomed..

When you drove the GTS cab, was the PSE off? You mentioned that the engine sounded great without PSE and didn't know if you menat it was off, or the car didn't have PSE. The GTS cars do have PSE.

Correct, the exact same setup. Ask your dealer about it! (I am not 100% sure if they can do that for you in the US)

pse

new to board
awaiting cab S delivery with PSE. I was at the Paul Miller (NJ) launch event and had a chance to play with the PSE. Amazing sound and very different from stock. Since you can turn it off I don't see the downside.

To those suggesting installing it later, it is probably best to get it from the factory to avoid complications.

The sound symposer does not come with PSE, so no reason to fear installing it later..

The same review also gave PDK a big nod of approval.
Why would you bring this up? I think we all read that review and frankly, I do not think it even deserves a second quote. As much as you are fond of the holy PDK, do you really think Porsche would put out a shXt MT?

Thanks everyone for the feedback and the good wishes! After reading all the responses, I am leaning towards just adding the PSE. The fans of PSE are making a pretty compelling case, and the fact that this is something that can be switched ON/OFF, I'd rather not take the chance of going without I'll contact my dealer this week and make the change. I am looking forwarding to providing feedback on the 7speed experience, I recognize much like most topics here, we have convictions on both ends of the spectrum, I look forward to chiming in with my 2 cents...

From someone who until a few days ago could not distinguish a flat six from a v6 I am surprised you continue to embarrass yourself with your lack of knowledge. The 991 standard exhaust is mechanically identical to the 997 PSE. It is not rumor, it is fact. do your homework, call your dealer and ask questions and be enlightened.

Tromero pls read...

*Feedback from dealer on 991 vs. 997 PSE:

> is the 991C2S standard exhaust the same as the 997 GTS PSE exhaust?

Negative.* However, when you selected Sport mode on the 991s, you do hear more of exhaust note channel back to interior cabin (not outside) -when driving, than 997s without PSE.*

*

Adding PSE does make the 991s louder (inside & outside) when select Sport/SportPlus mode.

Then this dealer is also uninformed. Champion Motorsports is one of the premier Porsche tuners in the United States and when I ordered my car I was informed very clearly that the standard exhaust on the 991 base/S is identical to the PSE on the 997S
