When are the Cabriolets going to be released?
My dealer is Stevinson in Denver. They have been great. Things like this are outside their control.
Yep it is really not fair that Newman has to wait till the rest of the cabs start arriving. My cab is slotted to arrive in Halifax on Saturday. Hope it does not get held up at the port for a long period of time. The reason why I jumped on the order was to have the car as soon as possible. Defeats the purpose if it is going to sit at the port. Well lets all hope that the cars will be in our hands sooner than later!I wish that PCNA would just be upfront and say no Cabs will be delivered until April 21 or what ever the date is that we are not kept in the dark. Not exactly the best way to treat a customer who is dropping 6 figures on a car.
Now that would really be a lousy deal - our Regional Manager seemed to imply last week that April 2nd would be the day to our dealer. All very mysterious - I know it will be worth the wait, but 3 months is a bit too much.
He was pretty definitive on the April 21st date at this point. He said there were some quality control issues. Also, you can order a 2013 car now for June production which is why the configurator was just updated.
That would at least explain the delay. I queried my dealer about potential QC and/or EPA related issues a week or so ago, he assured me that was not the issue but clearly he has also been in the dark. I have zero complaints with the dealer, they've been terrific to work with throughout this process.
I'm a bit perturbed and if there is a three week delay for me I am going to lose it. How does it make sense that our cabs will only be on the road for 2 or 3 months before the 2013's hit the streets? I know we are going to take a hit when we drive it off the lot but wouldn't this even drop it further?
Horrible release dates IMO. Don't want to speak for others, but I want my car for the summer which is why I'm not opting for a 2013 (would receive it in July at the earliest most likely) But if it get's delayed as long as it has for Newman then it sort of defeats the purpose of not waiting.

This just hit the wires:
"We are pleased with our March results, even though they are down slightly from last year, because we are in the midst of the launch of two all-new model lines," said President and CEO, Detlev von Platen. "The new 911 Coupe just went on sale in February and the Cabriolet will be in our dealers' showrooms this month – and we are debuting the all-new Boxster this week at the New York Auto Show. We are keeping up with last year's pace, even as our dealer inventories are extremely low due to these model line changes

I spoke with my dealer today after he spoke with his Regional Representative. He confirmed that Porsche will not allow dealers to recognize the sale of any Cabriolet before April 21st; however, he was also told that they will start releasing cars sometime next week. He stated that sold cars will be released first. He mentioned that this situation has occurred at least one time before when new models are being released. He also assured me that these delays have nothing to do with quality control issues - I believe him.
Not sure whether PAG or PCNA is responsible for making this call, but it could have been handled better in my opinion. I've beaten up my dealer who doesn't deserve it because the powers that be don't communicate very well.
All will be forgiven when it is delivered.
