3M for 991
I'm a fan.. although my car is a 997. I did the front facia, the hood, the exposed leading edges of both fenders, the mirrors, and the door edges. I'd do the same thing if/when I move into a 991.
I also have it on my headlights as well. Going on two years, 8,000 miles on a no rock chips (I probably shouldn't say that..).

I paid $675 in June of '10 to have it done by the Xpel guy in Winston-Salem. He was a VN vet, and I'm a VN vet, so he gave me the 'welcome home' discount.
Unfortunately, he's no longer doing clear bras.

I did the entire front of the car from the windshield forward, also the A pillars, behind the rear wheels, and the first 6 inches of the roof. These are the areas of the car I would notice bug splatter etc., and felt rocks could have a similar pattern.

I have installed film on 5 of them alreaddy and all of them were full hood, full fenders, bumper, lights, and mirrors... with a few other areas. I would recommend that coverage especially getting the full hood. There are much better films out there than 3M. Avery Nano Fusion, VentureShield Ultra, and Xpel Ultimate to name a few.
I live in Wisconsin and drive all year. My last car (BMW X5M), I covered from the front bumper to the windshield. Including fenders, sill (under doors) and the front part of the rear fender. Interestingly, I traded my truck in with 43k miles on it. Not one nick in the paint. They had a Ferrari F430 on the lot with 5k miles and chips all across the front. Because the 911 sits so low, I have heard of people doing the front, hood, fenders, a pillars and front part of the roof. There is a self healing film available now with a 7 year warranty. It is terrific. Sorry, I cannot remember the name.
My 991 is a lease. So I will probably not go that far. Maybe just the hood and front.

I paid $1200 full front, quarter hood, headlights, mirrors and both front and back wheel arches. On dark car, I have always found the wheel arches get blasted and show the wear. Plastic really helps in these areas.
Actually Ventureshield was its own company until a few years ago and 3M bought them out. It is still manufactured seperately but it is owned by 3M.
I put Xpel on my 991. Looks great with 10 year material/labor warranty. Self-healing surface. Dealer insisted it was better than 3M. Hand it put on all 4 wheel wells and rear rocker panels. Covers lights, front bumper and 1/2 of hood.

Big fan! I went to a great place in Morristown NJ, All In the Details. Ask for Chris. You have to look to see it. I think I paid about $1,800 for the full kit (front end, 18" up the fenders, headlights, mirrors) plus the complete hood. I shopped around. This was about mid-range (dealer wanted $2,500), but you are going to pay for a good installer and I feel I got very good value.
