Loaded 981 Boxster S or Bare Bones base 991?
Have you driven it? Nobody likes body roll. In the past they had to make the suspension so stiff to eliminate body roll, than it was uncomfortable to drive anywhere other than the track. Look at the member here who didn't get PDCC and is looking at new springs.
You don't have to get the PDK. If you want to be slow, get the manual. But the 911 is all about speed while still retaining some comfort around town. If I wanted pure speed, I would have saved money and bought a GT-R.
Obviously this is all a matter of personal taste, but I love the 991. How many less horsepower does the 991 S have compared to the 2012 GT3, and yet they get the same time at Nurburgring? And you actually complain?

And please don't get get offended but you say some odd things.
No one likes body roll? Are you sure?
And slow with a manual? A good driver in a manual will destroy a newbie with a PDK around a track. The tranny is only one part of being a fast driver.
I understand you love your car and it's a great one and a great pick up but please don't get carried away.
Oh..forget what I just wrote..you should get carried away. You own a monster of a performance car.
Good luck.

i just wanted to explain that the 911s of old were more dangerous/challenging and they needed a driver that was familiar with its famous rear-engined motoring quirkiness. the new one can be driven at ridicilous speeds, even by newbies (not that i would recommend that, cause even a 991 can crash)
some may ask, how can it be bad that all these fear factors have been erased in the 991?! and they are right!
and some may answer, well it´s what made the 911 unique and a bit more challenging/special than others. and they are right too!
That challenge is yet to be addressed- and it is disappointing to hear it wasn't identified and fixed in testing. I've got to think that if it is as much of an issue as people have described, it will be addressed.

It will have to be addressed.
Sorry for what I started - I am fairly certain that I am going to order a Boxster S with Full Leather, Sport Plus seats, Infotainment, Conv. Pkg., PASM, 6 Speed, Sport Chrono, 20" 991S wheels, yellow seat belt and some other goodies. I do like the 991 but I know that I will regret a base one with limited options.
I am going to take an extended test drive in a PDK 991S this week to get a real feel for the PDK. I am very torn on the transmission choice. I hate that I find myself driving my M3 in full auto mode 90% of the time and that the DCT, like all modern automatics gets to the highest gear possible in a quest for fuel economy. Manual will save me nearly $5k over a PDK given the cost of the PDK and the added costs to the sport chrono and sport steering wheel to get paddles.

you asked a question that many will be asking once the 981's hit the dealers.
It will be interesting to hear feedback once they are in dealers and are available for test drives.
I prefer manuals but no doubt PDK is a technological marvel. If you get it paddles are probable a good bet.
Your new here so I have to ask is this your first Porsche.

Definitely. Those little buttons just don't cut it for me.
Thanks Buckwheat. Yes, first Porsche. Did several long test drives in a 2009 C4S, 2011 C, Cayman, Cayman R with turbocharger (500+HP), and then the 991. Also test drove Z06 Vette, Camero, Nissan GT-R, and Nissan 300Z before coming to my decision. Previously owned Starion Turbo, Mitsu 3000GT, and Volvo V70R (all with manuals). Obviously an expert driver in a manual will beat a newbie with PDK, but the same driver in both will definitely be faster in the PDK. In sport plus mode, the PDK keeps the engine perfectly in the power band at all times with lightening fast shifts. So far, I don't miss the manual at all....
What an odd car in that mix! What's with that?

This actually sounds like a nice car but why get rid of the M3 . I also have a 2011 M3 and even though mine is a manual the newer model DCT is quite good . The M3 is the last normally aspirated power M car . I had 36K miles on my 08 before i bought the 11 car and it did not even hiccup once .
I actually like the M3 more than the Boxster at 77K price as a daily driver . The Boxster would make a great weekend car .
Typo. Ment 370Z. Sorry. Figured I could get a used one for little money (and guilt). Could even keep it outside instead of kicking the Jeep out of the garage. Then I read about the bad brake fade problem on Car and Driver, and all the testing they did only to find that it couldn't completely be solved even with racing pads and different brake fluid. Crossed that car off my list because I didn't want to end up in the wall at the track ....

I have a PDK 09 car as well as an EVT700 07 Turbo . The newer PDK in your car is more sophisticated than mine and that's the problem .. it will keep evolving wheras a 6 speed manual is timeless . With the new 7 speed manual PDK will take the lead only to become dated quickly .
At 130K when the technology goes down the depreciation plummets .
After buying 9 Porsches I can sincely say that the cost adds up but now the stakes have grown even larger with higher pricetags and larger risk exposure to the downside of the dated gadgets .
Go 6spd, nothing shifts as great as a Porsche in MT. There will be lots of opportunity to buy Pdk or Dct in the future.
