Who does their own basic maintenance?

I usually do my own oil changes and brake bleeds. The dealer told me not to change my own oil in order to make sure the warranty is not challenged in the event of a problem. Is this true? How difficult is an oil change on a 911? How about bleeding the brakes on these cars - is there a good description for that somewhere?
Also, how many miles can I expect to get out of the brake pads with fairly aggressive driving (I don't have ceramic)?

Thanks,
Rick

I'm a DIY person as well, but I can't be of much help here b/c I don't have a 991 as yet. I take delivery at Zuffenhausen on 20 June.

OTOH, I have started looking into routine maintenance. The oil filter is right under the panel housing the two fans above the engine. I've been told that the panel comes off easily, so if there's just a single drain plug below the engine--not sure about that--then the oil change should be straightforward.

And, with the lift I'll be installing in my garage this summer, oil changes and tire/wheel/brake work should be easier than it used to be...

I'm a DIY guy also and used to buy old Porsches, fix them up and sell them for a profit. There's a video that shows most of the process of doing an air filter change so you might want to look at that (see below). You will see it is possible to do those kind of things, but not easily. At this point in my life I won't be doing that.

OK, so much for the DIY air filter service idea

Stiil have hopes for changing the oil/filter though...until that video comes out.

That one is no problem! You just turn the car over and remove the cap.

Take a look at the 918 EVO video and see what's in store for future maintenance procedures!
