I don't smoke. The Smoking Package adds a cover to the little bin on the console behind the shifter. I think it adds a more finished look than the open bin.

Glad to hear that. I can't even begin to imagine someone crushing cigarette butts in the center console.

nice build but i would get painted side air vents for sure otherwise they are cheap looking.

SC - good to see you ordered it - @ min it really speeds up the shifting even when you are manually executing.

I would add it only because the magnetic engine mounts only come as part of that package.

I ended up dropping the PDK and ordering a stick shift. I got to drive a base 987 Boxster today with a stick and truly enjoyed shifting for myself. I included Sport Chrono but is it really worth it with a manual?

No. I wouldn't bother unless I was getting PDK.

Yep, and it might make you second guess your PDK decision.

With PDK I always suggest it. Just placed an order for a Carrera customer who didn't want it no matter what........the customer is always right.

What are your thoughts on PDK? Would you order PDK or stick?

The Boxster is a 6 speed manual and the base 911 is a 7 speed . I am not sure which car you've decided on .

I did not like the lever position on the 991 and also felt that this car is taking the high tech gadget path into its future plus i really liked the PDK in the test car . PDK won for me .. but in a Boxster I might opt for a manual . It's a different type of car IMO.

I decided on a Boxster S. I drove the 991 base and S manual and the S PDK. The manual in both was okay but I preferred the S PDK. Even bare bones, I could not spec a 991S PDK for much under $100k - even with my dealer's offered 5+% discount. I decided that the Boxster is more than enough car to fill my needs and I really like the look of the new car.

I initially ordered PDK with the Boxster but today I drove a manual 987 base Boxster and really liked the manual shift and clutch feel. I told the dealer to switch the order to a manual but am now reconsidering.

Personally I'm a manual guy but havent had a chance to drive the new 7 speed manual. From what I've read/heard it's really a great transmission. I should be getting my hands on one shortly so I can compare. As for the PDK I do like it. Having the option of driving in auto and manual is appealing and it's just so smooth. With sports plus mode I LOVE how it sounds going through the gears. I guess it comes down to price point for every customer.

If having a fun car at a great value are what led you to the Boxster it's totally understandable . I am leaning to the manual as well but I would still get sport chrono if the engine mounts come with it on the Boxster (I have to look to be sure) .

I will spec a car .. and come back to this thread to give my opinion.
