What other cars did you consider?
For me, I was deciding between getting a Cayman/Boxster plus a BMW 3-series as a DD. The test drive ultimately did me in. Now I'm waiting for my 991s build to complete in July. The wait is agonizing...
Did you cross shop other brands? Or it was clearly the 991 all the way without much consideration for other competitors?

Signed up for a white coupe three weeks ago.
Contenders:
Audi R8. Rejected because: To flashy looks, not enough storage inside, ground clearance too low (yes, that is an issue). Good car otherwise though. Quite impressive.
Nissan GTR: No sorry - may be a great car but no thanks...
Jag XKR-S. This I like. Great looker. But too expensive and looses value rapidly.
Seriously - none had a chance against what I wanted all my life. I'm so glad Porsche never discontinued the 911 and patiently kept it on the books, even made it nicer - just for me to get my act together. Thanks Porsche !

Funny, but for me it's between a pano and the 991. I have a 4yr old and another due in about a month. So with the car seat issues in the 991 the Pano is the more sensible choice I think. However I REALLY want a cab, so I keep coming back to the 991. The 911 has always been my favorite, I love the new design, and really miss my 997, so getting a Pano is tough for me but my practical side keeps screaming its the smarter move.
Could be worse things to struggle over.

I really wanted a 991 Turbo but didn't want to wait so I ordered a 991S that I've had about a month now. It is a fantastic car. I considered the following before ordering my 991.
Audi R8 (V10) - great car, but I don't like the look of the carbon fiber side blade. Also, redesign is coming for 2014.
Porsche GT2 - one of my all time favorite P cars. I was considering a 2008 which can be tuned to 630 HP, but I didn't like the car as a weekend car to drive 960 - 150 miles for short weekend trips. Ideally I would have a GT2 or GT3 and a 991S.
Porsche GTS - would have made more financial sense to buy this over the 991 but I decided to go with the 991.
Porsche 997 Turbo - same comment as the GTS.

Funny how similar car enthuasiasts are!! I considered all the above as well...I had a Panamera Turbo on order and then i drove the dealers test mule 911 S and i was like no way am i going panamera...too quiet..the power is deceptively fast, and the steering numb with the servotronic...now with all that being said if i didnt have my Jeep Overland 2012, the Panamera serves the best of all the worlds..if i had to have only 1 car it would be the Panamera Turbo and have Todd from EVO flash it...
but in no way shape or form can the pan, xkr-s, bentley SS, even the Aston Martin 300K carbon edition DBS i drove, along with the R8 Spyder, Lp-560 4, CLS amg 63...nothing inspired such a BALANCE of enjoyment...Even with the problems i have had with my coupe as **** is going to happen and PCNA took care of getting me out of my couple..I just LOVED the exhaust note of the sport exhasut, love the mapping of the sport and sport chrono!! and if busy doing 14 different things in the car-throw the pdk into auto mode and it is smooth sailing never a jaring axle or a feel like the car is coming apart as in my 996 TT.
The Burmeister is exquisite-enough said...the sport plus mode feels very similar carried out to red line than the lp 560-4 in CORSCA mode. Where as the Lambo is in no way shape or form a daily driver.
I can say that 60 days in the coupe refined my taste and i took notice actually to things i wanted to have 2nd time around...
FULL leather..for sure, i am embarassed for Porsche that they would charge upward of 120-150k for a car and not have real leather and stitching on the dash, doors, steering cowl, glove box, center arm rest and rear seating accents...but with Porsche we all know they nickel and dime you and since we as customers are willing to pay the piper i dont begrudge them their marketing strategies.
I ordered a triple black cabrio this time and decided to have all center dials in black as i found the large center tach in grey to be somewhat distracting and unpleasent to look at. I also ordered the full aluminum real brushed trim as the shinny plastic was just that shinny plastic...i know that their will be some shinny plastics part left but it will now only accent the real brushed aluminum. I also, to mix it up a bit, ordered the carbon fiber trim piece to surround the entire shifting counsel. on the configurator at the dealership it just looked kick *** on the TV....I ordered the sport chrono in white to "set off" the view looking forward.
I was also now able to order the sport design package which i feel finishes off the rear to the car and gives it more dimension along with a sportier front spoiler.
I didnt go with pddc as my coupe didnt have it and i dont track the car and the car felt flat enough...spasm is not an option on the cabrio!
A few other goodies and accents and i am on line patiently waiting. unfortunately i wasnt born with patience ;(

Not a great fan of the cup on its own without the wing - looks just a little weird to my eyes.
I will probably look at some nice, smallish OEM wing to finish off the back end - just for the looks - I'll never track this thing.
