I had a 997 CS, drove for 3 yrs and then traded in for a new 430 Coupe... then traded in it for 458 ! Now I have my 458 and got the deliver of my 991 CS cab a few days ago... My experience is that Ferrari and Porsche is a totally difference type of things. Ferrari is not only about the car, but the passion, the feeling and you feel special just sitting in it. Porsche is a fun, sexy and a daily car as well...but won't give you the special feeling ! Only IMHO.

I have a 2012 California, 6 months old, and just turned 3000 miles last night. Drive it 3-4 days a week, 30-40 mile commute. Love it, love it, love it. It definitely feels special, has an amazing sound and just stirs the soul for me.

However, having said that, I still find myself drawn to the 991 for the same reasons as you Alex. One, it is less expensive and I would mind less about DD it at times. I am not really concerned about resale. You are starting to see more Ferraris with more miles, and being used as DDs. There is a well known Fchatter that put almost 30k miles on his 2010 California and only lost about 30% in 2 years. Would be hard pressed to find that kind of value being retained in other cars with similar mileage.

In my opinion, you are paying or have paid for the thing. Drive it. Enjoy it. It could all be over tomorrow! Cheers and good luck in the hunt Alex.

When I got my 2011 California I thought it would be my last sports car buy. With the brand image, sound, power, 3-year warranty and generous 7-year service why would I ever think if any other sports car? I even waited to get the California after the 991 was launched so I could remind myself that I had considered all my options carefully before getting the California and there was nothing left to distract me later on. But I was wrong. I am drawn to the 991 (especially cabriolet) for reasons I still am not sure. I ended up ordering one

Seems common to long for a 991 even with a Ferrari.

458 is amazing but it is not a daily driver like the 991... Both cars have the same weight distribution....

@Samuel Lee
so... how come you ordered a 991 Cab as well?

Wouldn't the 458Spider do the trick?

Very very tough choice.

i love the versatility of an 991 S Cab - but the "special feeling" and crazy beautiful 458 is temping.... I've driven lots of Porsches (all types) but never driven the 458. Plus the cost of the 458 is much much higher. Worth it?
Where would you go to check pricing for the 458?

I find myself also drawn to the 991 S cab. Don't know why either. However, every time I open my garage door I am reminded about my love for my F car.

Who knows. On the 458 Spider list. We shall see.

Alex,
It appears that you already have a CTT for DD duty. So the car you are inquiring about would not need to take on DD duty, right?
If that is the case then I would also consider some older model 911's like:

GT2
GT3RS
TTS
These 911's feel nothing like a typical 991S, and give you that special feeling you want from a car. The 458 is great but not 100k more special then a scud or 150k better then the F430. Also keep in mind all the extra attention a ferrari will give you.
Before i decided on my GT2, I have had a lot of experience in a California, Scud and 458, they are amazing but would never take one over my GT2. They may look and sound better, but that is all they do better. If I had the funds I would probably own a ferrari along with a 911.

Love this forum and the insights from you guys

zzzspeed - I'm in California which means Cab is mandatory at this level of $ spent on a toy, would you agree?

so I'm limited because 991TT is not out yet and the older models are less versatile

Curious - how much is a 458spider at sticker price? Waiting for a year is also a bit crazy.

The extra attention - tricky - not sure id really want that but I do want a wow car special feeling - weekend drives - highway 1 etc

Yes, I would only buy a Ferrari if I lived in one of the big cities on the west coast or the east coast; However, here in Michigan the attention would be unwanted and the Porsche is perfect.

I am in San Diego, so I know about the desire for a cab and want one myself. But I would not get a hardcore sports car in cab, I would get a comfortable touring roadster as a cab (eg. SL63, Bentley GT, TTS, and etc). These cars have the speed and comfort and a little sportiness to them. I feel that a real sports car in cab form takes something away from the experience, there are exceptions though (eg. 16M scud).

If you are young and single, the attention is more appreciated; but if you are married with kids like me, then not so much.

Not sure what you mean about the previous models 911's being less versatile then the 991, try out a TTS cab vs the 991S cab!

Bottom line is you are lucky to be in this perdicament, and these are only my personal preferences. Get what works for you and hope the feedback everyone gives you helps with your decision.
If you ever down in SD with your new ride let me know, we can go for a drive.

If you ordered one sticker would be around 300k depending on options...I believe base price is about 250k....the options really add up.....and if you dont currently own a Ferrari the wait would be more like 18-24 months.

This one is for sale for $430k....yes, $100k over sticker....and its USED.....and you know what....someone will buy it....a few have already sold around that price.

The Ferrari is a...magnet.
But I'm pretty sure you won't like the 458...
I didn't, after driving the 991.

wow, amazing. why didn't you like the ride? the 458 has 100bhp more...
much "stiffer" ? or ....why?
The sounds seems much better than PSE.

Just curious.

The only thing that i see with Ferrari is that they're 100% more expensive and not sure if they are 100% better...
