Completely agree with you with the thumb paddles! I never thought I'd like them, but was advised by a guy I trust that they were good and you could always get the sport wheel later if you didn't like it (albeit for more money). I took the chance and I'm really enjoying them. Like you, I find it necessary to make a shift in the middle of a tight turn.
