Retrofit PSE on a manual 7 speed?
Retrofit PSE on a manual 7 speed?
I had pse on my 997.2. Although it wasn't loud enough, the sound quality was good (as opposed to unrefined loud noise). More importantly, when switched off it was quiet enough for a highway trip etc. I didn't know that PSE would always be open on startup (makes sense, but my garage is below my master bedroom). Also, I didn't realize the sport exhaust would add a few ponies - which it doesn't for the 3.8 b/c that has dual exhaust already.
So I'm wondering if anyone has experienced PSE vs. non PSE on the new car? (preferably the 3.4) The sound symposer (tube to the intake) is ingenious and IMHO makes the proper noise at high rpm. The only thing the PSE could do, it seems, is enhance the outside engine note - most notably at lower rpms [where the sound symposer isn't effective].
I know PSE on the 991 pops and crackles on overrun decelerating and down shifting, but I'm wondering if it gives a more mechanical flat 6 type noise just cruising @ 3-4k rpms? How does it sound at startup and lastly {MOST important to me} how tame is PSE while cruising with the flaps closed (compared to non pse - which is very mellow/quiet). If the new PSE is noticeably louder with flaps closed on the highway and doesn't have any raspiness to it at low-mid engine speeds, then I'm probably not going to invest in it [the overrun popping alone isn't enough].
OPtions are- the tips for the quad pipe look (waaaay overpriced @$900+labor) or the PSE, which using an E coupon will likely cost @ $3,300.00-$3,500.00 installed.
Thanks for any input.

PSE is open on start up ? Are you sure this applies to the 991 ?
As far as your question of getting it, it is a tough call on paper to spend $3,000 on this option but in real life I can tell you it is one of my favorite options that I went with ...
I cannot tell you how incredible in real life it is to have... the sound Symposer is nice but nothing is like the gurggle the PSE makes.
Believe me it was a big choice for me as well and I am very thankful I went with it ... also please understand I am not pushing options on the car as must have's as I surely skipped quite a few at a $110 msrp but this one now IMO is a Must have ....

For some reason the PSE is $400 less on an S? There must be some hardware on an S already that is included with the PSE on a base 3.4
I paid $2,200.00 at Suncoast for the PSE on the 997.2 (saved @$300.00 using the Porsche E-coupon).
I'm hoping the base 991 system will be @ $2500.00 with a coupon...
The real savings is to be had with labor. Some dealers are getting $1,000.00 or more...?? I did not pay that at my dealer and I got the full monty with the new button on the dash etc...
