Hesitation under hard acceleration
I am inclined to agree with Rainier on this. My car was sorta hesitating in first gear when warm in standard mode. The throttle would drop from 600-800 RPMs to 400 or less hen kick up to 800 and go. This even resulted in several stalls when reversing.
Took the car in for its 30k check and they updated the PDK with the latest campaign and adjusted the throttle. It's fixed now.

There is a definite lag in acceleration in non-sport mode. It appears to be noticeable when coasting mode is engaged and the pdk clutch dis-engaged. I have found the type of shoes (sneakers vs sandals) and seat position also seem to have a slight affect in perceived throttle response.
Yes, I feel it too sometimes. It doesn't feel as a clutch thing with me though. Feels more like "turbo lag", indeed like the DFI ****s up the fuel air mix. But haven't grasped the variables yet, it seems intermittent at the moment.
It almost feels like it's a lack of fuel to the car or something.
I notice if I ease into accelerating, it doesn't happen, but when I try to accelerate faster, it hesitates. I can't time it, but it's long enough for me to react by letting my foot off the gas, and then reaccelerating.... if that makes sense.

My November 12 build C2S had the throttle hesitation. When flooring it in any mode you would first get about a 1/2-1 second minor increase in RPM (about 100) before the clutch would pretty much fully engage and then RPM allowed to increase.
I used various techniques to get around this like left foot on brake, then throttle then let go of brake.
Anyway - car was due for its first 10.000 Km oil service so I took it to the dealer. They informend me that the car needed its "control unit" updated and it had something to do with the PDK but did not know any details.
I am very pleased to say that the update completely removed the lag and also "fixed" the somewhat lacklustre gear changes in Sport+ mode. They are now really violent - it even surprised me to get a good thump in the back when it changed gears at 180Km/h after a launch.
Flooring it now in any mode (not launch control) gets the RPM to rise rapidly instantly with some clutch slipage to support - recon at about 4000 RPM or so the clutch is fully engaged. Pretty much perfect in my book now.
If your car has this lag - take it for the update. It almost changes it into a new car. Just feels different now. The way it should.

Rainier. I know it's a big ask. But you seem to have found the solution to the problem a lot of us are experiencing. Would it be possible to find out exactly what was upgraded/updated to fix these problems (so we all can go out and get it fixed) ?
It's automatically distributed to all PIWIS systems so your vehicle can get updated the next time it is connected.
My Porsche service advisor only knew that my car was earmarked for the update (she told me when I dropped off the car) but when I asked for details the only thing she could tell me that the update was for the engine control unit and that it had to do with the PDK.
She also told me that I would likely not notice any change (probably had my "worried" look on).
Glad to say I absolutly did notice the change immediately and after a bit of "testing" can report that I have now lost just about the last reason I had to favour MT over the PDK. It pulls away so nicely now I think I would have to practice a bit to emulate this with a MT. Rise in RPM vs. Clutch slippage is managed to perfection.
Damn, I sound like a salesman...

It seems to be a "campain", I know my car was "campain free" not very long ago so this must be a reasonably new one.

Not related to fuel octane or quality at all (we get the good stuff here). The way mine worked was really like this:
Right foot flat, observe RPM rise by about 100, then clutch engage full, then off you go (taking altogther about 0.5-1 second before you start moving). Of course with the clutch fully engaged you are stuck with low torque for a while until RPM gets into the power band.
Launch control did NOT have this restriction (of course RPM is already at 6500 when you let go).
If you would accelerate in gear forcefully (say to overtake), again there is some lag before things start to happen - like it's somehow waiting for the gearbox to make up its mind before downshifting.
Drive off normally from a standstill and there is no lag at all.
All of this is now history, the car jumps off the line if asked (in any mode), it responds like an angry Rottweiler if you floor it in gear and I love the way the clutch just gets dropped in Sport+ when changing gear - even that was "mild" before the update.
To put this in another way: If you would have blind folded me after the update and coached me that way into a short but spirited drive and told me I just had a ride in the new GT3 I would have believed you.

after doing some research on aftermarket exhaust I noticed that almost every stock dyno plot on the S shows a dip in tq and hp in certain rpm ranges. Here is the fab speed dyno of their car before and after. Vivid Racing shows the same too--- very interesting and maybe the cause of the feelings some are reporting- the tq dip is particularly disturbing
Glad to find this here...
Test drove a 2014 Carrera S PDK today and it DEFINATELY stumbled off the line.
I have an 09 Boxster S PDK and it just takes off and rips through the gears. No hesitation ANYWHERE, sport mode on OR off....
I REALLY want to like the 2014 991 S and told the dealer about the problem.
All I got was "no ones ever commented on that", "I've driven the car and don't know what you mean"..etc....
When I sent a link to the discussion of this issue (here and the "other" forum) the salesman tells me on the phone "We take Internet Forums with a grain of salt"......
I'd really like to know if this can be fixed. If not I'm going to have to pass on the car. A shame really, it's the deep blue metallic with only 7 K miles and looks great!

I have the Cobb tune in my car. It completely changes the dynamics of the car. For example, I never drove my 2014 C2 (w/o tune) in any other than the sport mode. Now, on the street I drive in normal mode as the tune creates the power and torque at the low end.
On the track, I run the 93 octane map with a gas blend around 95 octane. The car is super fast, on straights the S cannot pull away from me. Best performance booster for the 3.4 on the market. In sport plus, I am pulling 0-60 under 4 sec. Also, have the AWE tuned exhaust.
