991 recall

I took my car last tuesday to the dealer to take care of a brake vibration issue (no big deal ... just some rust spot on one of the rear rotors). They called me the next day to tell me that there are two recall repairs that need to be done: a fuel line and front end clip replacement that I already knew about thanks to this forum.

After 6 days of working on my car, the dealer calls me today to let me know that there is one more recall item which involves some kind of foaming spray and more clip replacement to prevent water intrusion into the passenger compartment and front luggage area. This work has to be done by the dealer's body shop as my technician does not feel comfortable with this work. Has anyone heard of this recall?

The dealer told me to either pick up the car tomorrow and bring it back when the body shop has an opening, or just leave it there for another 2 weeks.

This has been a rough first 10 days of porsche ownership. I got to drive the car for only 2.5 days and it has been sitting on a maintenance bay for 7 days. My salesman and service advisor have been super helpful and empathetic, so I cannot let out my frustration at them. But this is not what I envisioned when I cut a 120k check

Have not heard of the recall you mention that the dealer says needs to be done by body shop.
For the fuel line recall to apply, your car needs to have been produced very early, i.e. Oct 11 to Jan 12. Even if this recall is applicable, considering they sold you the car less than two weeks ago, I would imagine they should have addressed it prior to sale.

Ask for a decent loaner and compensation in the form of a free service.

I haven't been informed of the foam recall and my car was just in the dealer for a repair. Has anyone heard of this one?

I'd visit the dealership and get my car until they are ready to work on it. Hard to believe a recall item would take 10 days. Make sure it isn't some other body work needed due to their negligence at the dealership.

Gentlemen, thanks for your replies

The last recall involving a body work is kinda weird. They reassured me last week that the car will be done by thursday, which got pushed to friday and then to monday. Today they pulled this foam spray recall out of nowhere that somehow they became aware of this morning. Very confusing story indeed.

Update: I just called PCNA and gave them my VIN to check for an open recall. As you are aware, there is a fuel line recall and a new body seal recall. 2012 911 owners might want to call PCNA to check.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have only heard of the early car fuel line recall. Foam and clip ones are first time mention that I have seen, which adds to the mystery. Which MD dealer?

Well... tough luck rite? Like I said, this is not what I expected when I cut the check, shook hands, and drove my car into the sunset.

I have worked my tails off for the past 15 years to fulfill my goal of owning a 911 before I reached 40. So when the time came to pick up a 911 I expected something more special than what I going through. I guess I am really frustrated because of my high expectation and anticipation.

The dealer has been absolutely great. They provided me with a porsche loaner and both my sales advisor and service advisor gave me a regular phone call to update me. And when I talked to them, they seemed to understand how frustrating my situation can be. So, I will leave my dealer out of the discussion

Sorry to hear about your maintenance issues, but I'm glad at least you got a Porsche loaner. I know how much I was disappointed when mine had to be towed off with less than 1,000 miles on it. It's hard to think you have finally gotten to the goal line only to find someone has moved it. Try to keep a stiff upper lip; this too will end and you'll get to enjoy your new ride!

ChuckJ, thanks for your kind words. I am sure I will feel better once I get my car back tomorrow.

I am glad that they have put a hold on 2013MY. Leaks into the front of the car is pretty serious... They are going to put foam to stop the leak on the $120K car. ;-(

Tachyon: my car is a 2012 991s. My understanding is that every plastic parts that line the wheel arches (i.e. 2 front and 2 back) and the plastic lining of the front trunk are glued again.

I just came back from the dealer. This recall is much more labor intensive than I thought. It seems to involve removing body panels and reapplying glue to prevent water leakage. Best case scenario, the work will be done in 3-4 days. Worst case scenario, my car will be in the body shop for 10-14 days. Ouch
