Top Speed Question

I plan to take my 991-S to a runway shootout in October and I was wondering how much runway I would need to hit the advertised 188mph top speed. The runway is 4000 ft long but obviously you need some distance to stop as well. What do you guys think?

Not a chance in less than a mile! I would guess that 2-3 miles would be the minimum you need. the last 40 mph takes a bit of time and as you have said you need to stop too.

You could probably check it for a 1/4 mile test there.

You might need to take it to a NASCAR track to check out the top speed.

Totally agree, once you hit 150 it's a slow steady proces.

Is it the Carabelle speed festival you are attending? I will not be there but will do the 1/2 mile shootout in Clayton, GA with wannaGOFAST on 9/22. Will let you know how it worked out for me...

I got mine up to 165MPH on the Autobahn, and yes -- it took a while. I had trouble finding enough free stretch to get past that before I'd hit traffic or a limited area.

There is a video floating around (use Google to find it) of a 991 S going to about 312 Km/h (about 194mph) indicated on the speedo (so probably slightly less in reality).

Video shows the whole thing from the start, inside view on the instrument cluster so you get a good idea on how long it takes to the various speeds.
Not bad at all...

A bullet is a much cheaper way to kill yourself but admittedly less spectacular...

Here ya go, straight from the 991 video thread.

This video is awesome!
991 C2S taken up to 313 kmph...
Amazing how fast it gets up to 240, after that it starts taking exponentially longer though.
I was expecting the driver to lift off waaaay earlier, must have been on the autobahn at 3am

Check it out...

I've done 150 mph a few times, and in sport + it gets there real quick without any slowing down in acceleration. Before u know it, u are there. Beyond that I can't say how much longer it would take. Also it is considerably slower in the other driving modes.
