Can anyone chime in that uses these for extended periods of time? I like the idea until I saw how bad they age. What does it look like when you remove the clear (dingy hazy) bra?
I see the half hood bra starts to turn hazy and whiteish on used cars on the lot. I don't remember how old these cars are, but I'd like to know if anyone here had one removed.
My 08 cayenne had a scratch on the bumper right net to the porsche crest and I really don't want to relive this memory on my next one.

I think you will have to look into the exact material; some come off easier than others. I didn't get a half hood because of the line.

I'm certainly no expert on bra film but you may be looking at some of the older type films when you refer to hazy or whiteish looking.

That said I have seen 8 year old Ferraris with film from new that still look excellent.

Part of it may have to do with how people take care of the car/film.....is it garaged, washed properly, good film with a proper install, detailed properly and not had harsh products applied...many factors will decrease the appearance and luster.

My belief is....if installed and cared for properly, it will look great.

And if ever removed and there was a difference in paint appearance most likely an experienced detailer could correct it......you'd be amazed at what some high end detailers are capable of.

agreed, my technician uses a product with a lifetime guarantee. i believe the old material was a 3M product that didn't age as well.

If you drive a lot on the interstate, especially one heavily used by trucks, it's worth it. Even if it yellows. Take it off and put on a new one every 3 years.
Several years ago my job transferred me to a location further away. I used the I or the turnpike everyday. I didn't like the idea of covering my paint and refused to get a clear bra. I ended up painting the front bumper every year. I did that 3 years, paying $250 for the work. How much is a clear bra? I'm sure it's less than the $750 I spent painting my car.

But only about $500 for the bumper, headlights and mirrors.

have the whole hood covered and mirrors on my 997. Have a new 991 on order and will do the same. (although the dealer told me to only do the 1/2). Don't want to deal with the line and the waxing issues.

MY 997 is an '08 with no yellowing or any other issues.

To me, this clear coat thing is like throwing away money for someone else to enjoy. I don't plan on keeping my car for 10 years so why should I buy "insurance" for someone else? The resale will be the same anyway.

Good points about cost benefit. I paid $1000 and included lower rear fenders. I suspect the product will last at least 10 years. How much does it cost to paint hood? I suspect a lot and no guaranty that it will match fender color. I'm glad I have it.

Thanks for all the input, I just had the xpel applied and did the whole good, fenders, headlights, mirrors and door handles. It looks amazing and I only see the seems on the edge of the headlights as he did a wraparound technique. Just in time as I leave today on a 5 hr drive to the PGA.

Braindoc1 my car just came in im planning doing same as what you have, how much did it cost? Also thinking to save a few bucks only doing say the 1st 8-10inches or so of the hood which to me is probabaly the most vulnerable to chips instead if middle of the hood. Comments?
