I doubt they will sell you anything "at a lost". Or the "we aren't making any money at that price" line. But that is a great deal, so congrats on that. ; D. As most point out here, selling price will vary depending on location/demand.

I don't think I implied that the dealer will sell at a loss. My post was simply a pointer to how "I" do business.

Anyway, congratulations are due to you on your "great deal" and haggling prowess... and to the dealer who according to you is counting on the "huge" profits that you will bring them. A win win situation if ever there was eh?

Enjoy the car!

Any info on what people saw in California, more specifically Northern California? Going to shop around but wanted to understand what was good in this area.

I've got 5% in south California . My initial offer was 10. My dealer said there is 10% in the car so he will split it with me, 5 for me , 5 for them.

I think I need to raide the BS flag on an "just under 9%" deal. There is barely 10% in the cars and unless it was a car that was used as a demo and had some miles on it that PCNA has paid the dealer for I doubt that there is anyone that can stay in business selling for a 1% profit.

If so, go take a look at their 10k before making uninformed comments. Parts and service accounts for only 13% of Penske revenues but 44% of their gross margin. New car sales account for 53% of total revenue but only 27% of gross profit. In other words, service is the primary driver of profitability at a car dealership.

They are also hoping I will buy warranty or service packages, protective film, etc when my car arrives. Dealers sell some cars at msrp and some at huge discounts. All depends on timing and willingness/ability to negotiate.

Dealers like to sell cars but they LOVE service customers.
Ermmmmm Porsche dealers selling at MSRP...... Bought lots of Porsches before?

You should have simply asked the question and left it at that mate. Answer to you questions:Yes I do know. The extra typing on your part was a waste.

End of dialogue.

All depends on your dealer and how hard you are willing to negotiate. Some dealers are in highly competitive markets and they are high volume dealers. They therefore may discount more aggressively than lower volume dealers in less competitive market.

Check the rennlist forum where others are noting big discounts.

Take your search far and wide next time and you may be able to score a similar discount. Gotta be willing to walk away if you don't get deal you want.

My discount was 8.625% on a brand new 2013 build.

Very interesting discussion. Best of luck to the OP. With the discount that you received in buying your car. I know the dealership will make the money back from someone else or you when you bring the car in for servicing. Dealerships are in business in making money.

Personally, I believe to establish a relationship with the dealer, and the dealer with whom I have been dealing with for the past twenty years has always given me a fair price for both purchases and service. I may not get a 9 to 10% discount on a purchase, but want a fair and not inflated price for service. I really do not want to be labeled as someone difficult to deal with when I am again in the market for a car.

Over the past two years, and three Porsches that I have bought from the dealer, I have averaged between 6 to 8% discount on my orders. On my 2009 911 cabriolet, I received a 9.5% discount as it was on the lot for ten months.

I believe the dealer is happy with the deal and so am I. Win/win for both of us.
