PSE question

Planning on adding PSE to my build, but have a couple questions.
1. Does the PSE sound any different between the 3.4 and 3.8 engines?
2. Same question between the PDK and manual?

I keep reading how great it sounds in sport plus mode with the PDK on downshifts. I am planning on getting a manual, so to get that sound I'll have to create my own rev matching on downshifts, which is fine. However I am not planning on getting Sport Chrono as a lot of what it offers is geared towards the PDK. So I won't have the Sport Plus option, wondering how much of a difference it will make.

As a 7 speed manual owner with sport chono, the best pops and gurgles are with sport or sport+ mode. It is literally a night and day difference in the PSE sound with Sport/+, in my opinion. I ran all over tonight in sport+ and could not believe the great sound I was getting (and I've used two different great aftermarket exhaust systems). the 991 PSE is really, really good and you want Sport Chrono on your manual - it remaps the throttle response as well and soon you will get rev-matching on downshifts in sport+ after they roll out the C4's and it trickles down the model chain to the rear drive.

Thanks Nicoli for a great answer.
That's right I did read an article somewhere about rev matching coming to the manual 991 sometime after the C4's roll out. Can't believe I forgot that. I was trying to save a few dollars by not getting the sport Chrono option thinking that it didn't provide as much value for the manual. Guess I need to look into that again. If I get the sport exhaust, and it has been on my list since day 1 then I want to get the most out of it possible.

Don't forget the motor stabilization that you get with Sport Chrono!

I drove a 991 Cab in Germany in May (Rental) and a 991S Coupe in September (again Rental - both trips on the Porsche PCA Treffen).
The "pops" etc. were more pronounced (both with the PSE turned on) in the S but it did have more KM at the start of each rental (12km on the 991 and 3500km on the 991S.

Oh wow, that is absolutely correct - nice. I forgot now that is part of the Sport Chrono pack. Very cool.

I didn't have it on my 2009 C2S and this one is so much smoother at idle it's remarkable. That could be from several changes including the mods to the injection system, but I'll bet the dynamic engine mounts are part of it. Perhaps someone that doesn't have them could tell us if they can balance a nickle on its edge with the engine idling.
