New Cayman Best Looking Porsche of All?
You know. I thought about that. You are probably right about it being a flame thread as the user "hawc" who started the thread mainly posts in the Cayman/Boxster forums
Because they can.
I hate marketing... It is keeping an awesome car away from us. It would be cool if there was direct competition to the 500+HP, mid-engined, dual clutch, AWD V10 R8. I guess choice is good.
I agree, it looks more supercar-ish... Perhaps the side vents add to the lines? It looks muscular, with those flared fenders...
I saw this title and had to come to see how the flamers treat this topic... Having owned 911 Turbo (996) and Cayman S (987)... my opinion hasn't changed... 911 looks over the Mid Engine variants... even with the new models. But if you don't respect the Cayman on a windy road or on track, they will make you respect them.
Crazy as it sounds a fully loaded 981S is about $90K MSRP, and the Cayman has always been priced higher than the cab. So loaded Boxster hardtop or moderately optioned 991 base...about the same cost.
It will really test buyer objectives.
The new Cayman is probably closer in spirit to the air cooled generations of the 911 than the current 991 is.
I grew up lusting after a 911. Now, after 30 years of that I pulled the trigger and bought a 991. I love it. Frankly, I am happy the new 991 is a bit more composed than the original air cooled 911s. And I like the fact that the 991 is actually more understated than the aggresive lines on the new Cayman.
The Cayman will have a new fervent following in today's younger generation. The cycle starts again...

Bravo, Porsche. They got rid of the 'wearing a helmet' profile of the former Cayman. I like the profile and the lines of the new model.
I drove 2012 Cayman S and was very impressed with the handing. This one should be no lesser in that regard. Cool!

I drove the Boxster S which has the same powerplant as the Cayman S back to back against a 991 S at the Porsche World Road show. Yes, it did handle nicely, but wow..the power in the 991 S in Sports Plus vs. the Boxster S is quite different. To me, the Boxster S with the PDK was dragging a bit, but what can I say, I drove it after the 991 S.
911 vs Cayman .. reminds me of something Jeremy Clarckson once said when he reviewed the Cayman
"if you pull up to the lights next to someone in 911 (while driving a Cayman).. it will be like going to the urinals next to a horse"
