Manual 2012 4GTS or manual 991 CS?

Trying to guage what would be a better value at this point, among other things. Any thoughts are welcome!

I think the 991 will be easier to live with. With the 4GTS, you are getting a race car based on the 997. The 997 was almost a perfect car, some of the ergonomics I never got used to, and add a staffer ride might not be as comfortable as a 991.

Maintenance is another worry, though both expensive, the GTS will start seeing an increase in cost and availability will start to diminish in the years to come. The 991 because it will be around for the next ten years will keep costs down somewhat.

Is this an everyday car?

Thanks for the opinion. Good point I forgot to add: If I do get something it's going to be the garage fun car, not the daily driver. Would like to keep the DSG A3!

Good problem to have since it is not an everyday car. I think I might still go for the 991 because if you we're to match the cost, you can really get a loaded 991 which will give you track ability and comfort for long fast drives.

Fester, the 991 C4S in your avatar picture looks so good. Modern, especially with the red reflector. Looking at that really dates even the 997.2 4GTS. But even with that said, there's something classic 911 about the 997.2 that's still charming. Modernized just enough with the LEDs and tech, but retaining the iconic body shape and headlights. Who knows if I'll feel the same in 2 years.

FWIW, I find the 997 Aisin manual much superior to the ZF manual in the 991...if I was buying a 991 it would have to be PDK. The attraction of a 997, to me anyway, is the Aisin 6 spd.

Aaron,
u don't need the 4GTS in Cali. the added weight makes no sense. it u want the 4WD, back to square one. get a Turbo. 991 is out of question until u drive one. otherwise no point to discuss between the 2. as far as value goes, u better off getting a killing deal on the GTS then a new 991.

Have you also considered a '10 997.2 GT3?

If not going turbo that would be my choice in that price range. There are some very low mileage specs out there in the ~105k range.

I've gotta agree...997.2 does provide retro look...nice balance there..

I PM'd you earlier and hope you got it as I am not good at navigating around the forum. I faced the exact same problem as you the last few weeks. I traded my '11 CS on an E63 AMG, and, while the 63 is a GREAT car, it isn't a Porsche! So I am back to looking as you know. I decided on either a GTS or a '12 991. I saw the 991 at Rennsport, then drove one at my dealer and loved it. The two things that are a must are PDK and PSE, and I didn't want red or yellow. So it is difficult to find a reasonably priced 991 with those requirements. Enter the GTS with standard PSE, nice widebody looks, more power, etc, less money, and it starts to make sense. So I find a '12 4 GTS priced right and make a deal. While I am taking my E63 to the trade-in dealer, I get rear ended in front of the dealership!!! Bye bye deal!! Now I am in the process of getting the 63 fixed and dealing with insurance. The selling dealer has been great about the whole thing and has the attitude of "Get it fixed, and we'll find another car when you do". When this all settles out, I really think I'll just wait and get the right 991. It's what I really want. I like the new body and interior, and I feel it can be either and great touring GT or a fabulous track car depending on how you punch the buttons. Sorry about being so long winded but thought it was an interesting story, and one you don't hear every day.
