I have asked the dealership and the lead tech tells me that they can't be turned off using the PWIS.

Shutting them off on my old 09 Coupe was easy.
Hi there. I own a brandnew 2015 991-4s. The front daytime running lights stays on as long as the engine is turning, resp. key on ignition. In colder temperatures this is very annoying when you are parked somewhere to take a break. Since there is no engine heat recuperation device available on the 991, you have to keep the engine/heater running. So everybody sees that there is a person in a Porsche 911 taking a nap. Since there had been some car-jacking scenarios around I'm very displeased with this... I tried to change DRL setting via PCM, but there is no check mark to disconnct this. In elder models, say the 997, there where a possibility via setting a mark in the PCM. This useful feature doesn't anymore exist on the 991. Somebody out there to give me a hint. Thanks, Mario

I shut them off in my car in the US. When the car was delivered to the dealer I asked him to do it and showed him the rules that their not required. He was able to contact a master tech that disabled them.

As far as I know, the 997's DRL can be switched off by ticking (or unticking) a box in the PCM. That box unfortunately is not foreseen on the 991.

If you own a 991 and your dealer was able to switch them off it would be great if you can share your experience...

Thanks

At first the tech said it could only been done in the 997 and didn't see an option. Then I forwarded him the info from the manual.

When I checked back he said he was able to code the car with the Porsche tester to not have daytime running lights.

Sure enough my car doesn't have the daytime running lights. Since it's perfectly legal to not have them I don't see why it's such an issue

Okay, thanks.... my Porsche dealer apperently is unable resp. unwilling to programm the system in such a matter that the DRL can be switched ON/OFF manually. It bothers me, because when I'm taking a nap at a restarea my car can looks like a Xmas-tree. Very inviting for all kind of people. We have a lot from the former communist states....

My salesman didn't know for sure so he gave me the techs email. Maybe you can talk to the head technician there about coding to the tester to turn it off. Or are you saying they know how to do it, but they're just refusing? That's not right. Is there another Porsche dealer you can go to? My technician mentioned if I wanted to turn them on I'd have to bring it to a Porsche dealer, so I figured it was something all the dealerships could do.

I wrote a mail to the Porsche customer center in Stuttgart. They replied, that I have to refer to my dealer which previously send me to Stuttgart. So I'm turning in circles.... At my opinion the dealer don't know how to do it and simply refuse it. I've been to another Porsche Center asking them.... but same story!

So far as I read you, your DRL are permanently disabled. If you want them back to work again you have to see your technician once more. My request is to program the system in such a manner, that the driver has the option to switch them ON/OFF by hand. To my knowledge, on the 997 you have that option through the PCM, "Outside Lighting".
