Lifter Bleed Down New 991 Cab
Lifter Bleed Down New 991 Cab
Went to take my one week old 991 Cab for a little ride tonight. It has been sitting in my garage for 1 week without being started. The car has 125 miles on it.
Upon start up the engine knocked like you wouldn't believe! Sounded like a rod knock but I assumed that 1 or more of the lifters had bled down. So I let her idle for a few minutes and then gently drove off and kept the revs under 2500. As the oil temp slowly came up the noise started to go away. It's about 72 degrees out now where I live and when the car was fully warmed my oil temp was about 225. When I returned from my ride the engine sounded normal.
Going to make a point of driving the car tomorrow morning after it sits tonight to see if it does it again or if it was just an isolated incident that I can attribute to break in.
Anyone else experience this?

How long was your car sitting before you started it the last?

The next day the car was fine. Started normally, no lifter noise.
I will let it sit for a couple of days and see if it does it again.

I think if that happens again, I would record it with your cell phone camera and take it to the dealer.
in fact, I thought it was solid lifters and if it is, then that's a different and even more serious problem.

Last week I brought mine into the dealer to have a few recalls done and added noisy lifters to the list.(they weren't nearly as loud as you're describing) The mechanic documented that the lifters are behaving as designed and no further action is needed.
