Corvette C7 ... revealed in less than 54 minutes
The new 2014 Corvette will be the most powerful base Corvette ever with a 450 horsepower 6.2-liter V8, but GM boasts it will also be the most fuel-efficient 'Vette ever. It expects the 2014 model to exceed the 26 miles-per-gallon performance of current Vettes.
good move chevy
I like the shark-like lines of the C7. I think the C7's looks are more in harmony with what a Corvette is - a relatively inexpensive american muscle car. The new car looks more like a nicer Camaro (which it always has actually been) than a wannabe ferrari like the C6.
Younger driver's who may watch corvettes in the ALMS will love this car. 55+ year old automatic transmission Corvette guys (and I'd venture to say thats a huge percentage of buyers) will NOT like this car. It's very edgy and modern.
C6 values may hold firm for a while...?

Does it have the button in the cabin to turn it into a humanoid robot, alas The Transformers?
They must have hired a bunch of video games drivers in their consumer focus group. It'll definitely appeal to the younger crowd.

i've always admired vintage vettes but not so much into the modern era. i feel like it got too big and plasticky for my taste. the corvette is a great example of how difficult it really is for a iconic model to evolve over many, many years. like 911, vettes have been around a long time. lots of changes therefore required. there are going to be eras with hits and misses. look how the 996 was raked over the coals for the boxster lookalike headlights and changeover to watercooled. the former was a miss, but the latter was ultimately a leap forward.
car enthusiasts will have to get the c7 on the road before the jury is out...but overall looks like a move in the right direction!

Because it is half the price? I agree that they really don't look the same (question of taste), but ... weight, power, performance, plenty of technologies, uses of moderns materials (ex: carbon, aluminium) humm!!. Sure, with the Corvette, you can't customize your car with tons of overpriced options like we can do with our Porsche. My 991 4S on order has over $45k of options ... and here in Canada, the 4s starts at $120k...
PS: I still prefer Porsche

I've owned several corvettes, including a 2008 Zo6. The visceral feel of that car has exceeded every Porsche i've owned, including my current 991, EXCEPT for the GT3 I owned. I never minded the plastic interior. The car was no engaging I didn't notice.
We like to make fun of other cars, but the newer corvettes are really kick *** cars.

Only if you are a middle-aged white man in your 60's
Those are the only people I see driving them.
While they are not likely cross-shopped, and they have different characters but they are for sure performance rivals.
Both cars are high volume performance cars designed to make exotic performance 'affordable".
Both of these cars are still "pure-ish" driving machines when compared to a GTR.
To be honest it seems the places the Vette "falls down" are not performance related at all, but more to do with materials, finishing and "class" .
I think it succeeds as a sports car and fails at an exotic GT.

Middle aged men in their sixties who drive sport cars usually have money. I know the Vette will never live down it's Plumber's Sportcar moniker. And quite frankly, if you've never driven one................
I think the new design is too busy. Too much like all failed GM designs. It feels forced in areas and is lacking the grace ALL enduring designs have. Many of the ideas are right, but they feel like they have been filtered through a processed cheese machine.
This is in no way the successor to the gorgeous 1963 Vettes.

Riding over / near the rear wheels with leaf springs is not great for ride quality or traction when you've got a near instant 400 pounds of torque.
I've heard there may be a TT 6 option. Now there's an idea if it's DOHC that can turn to 7K.
