New Car Delivered: Horror story of out of state delivery

I wish my "new car" post was as happy as most 991 threads here, sharing nice stunning photos of their new baby and being all excited. Unfortunately mine is a horror story, and probably some good information to anyone who is considering out of state delivery and what should be expected.

Car was shipped enclosed from middle of the country to the west coast. When it arrived it was dirty. The driver proceeded to bring bottles of water out as I was arriving at the drop point and saw him throwing the water on the car and wiping the black dirt off with his hands. Before I could stop him getting any further in "washing" the car, he already did the side door and hood.

Only after I gave it a hose down do I noticed how much hairline scratches there are. The inside was also scuffed and floor mats dirty. The areas he did not wash down, the rear and roof, do not have hairline scratches. Not a great new car experience.

Sorry to hear that, still congrats on the new toy. I hope after a good wash, quick clay and wax, it will be perfect. A good detailer should be able to take out some of the imperfection. I wouldn't be able purchase a car without seeing/touching it first. I think it is best to have some kind of customer service/follow up just in case. but I know what you mean, to see someone doing that to a brand new car is just shocking.

As bad as it may seem now, at least she got there safe and sound! All you need is a nice detailing and she'll be perfect

Sorry to hear that. Did you get insurance with the transporter?
The good news is that if they're surface scratches you can have them buffed out before you install your all important Clearbra.

I know it hurts to see that, but hopefully it is not deep and should come off easy with a good detail. You will feel better after it is taking care of.

Swirl marks can also be taken care of by a good detailer as well. Just make sire you find a good one with proven record and referral. Unfortunately, most cars especially high end cars comes with the Free Swirl Marks option. Eg, one of Aston Matin big selling point is the number of man hours they spend on painting the car, and how rich and deep the paint look. But guess what, we pretty much gave ours away less than 2 years... among other problems

Congratulations nevertheless! Which Porsche dealer did you buy this car new from? It is up to the dealer to detail and deliver the car perfect or you do not have to accept it and pay for it! I would read the dealer the riot act and try to get something out of him (like a service for free!)

thanks everyone for the support & congrats!

looking around for a reputable detailer than can get scratches out is pricey to say the least.

just sad to not have a happy new car experience. all the local deliveries i had, have all been great. the feeling getting into the car the first time... amazing, exciting! just didn't get that this time, and this car is 3x more expensive than my last.

Thanks Speeddemon. The dealer said they loaded it on the truck clean and perfect. Since its out of state, I don't know how I could not accept it

I'm talking with the dealer, so I'll hold off on putting their name out there.

I couldn't find anything on "dealer riot act" on google, any pointers?

Your frustration is 100% understandable, especially when you are looking for that first interaction to be exciting. I would be **** too. How deep are the scratches? Why not wash and give it a good wax and see what that does?

Not gonna lie, I expected a broken bumper or dented panel. Definitely not the ideal Car Delivery. Don't worry, those little things come right out. Since she's filthy already you just have the same guy who will detail the car make that baby like new again. Congrats you've got a 991!
