Broke 2000 mile barrier!

Finally broke 2000 mile break-in period!!!

Took exactly 3 weeks, including a drive to Napa x 2 and a trip to LA!

Now I need to get an oil change done, and ready to find out what this new C4S is all about!

I am sure you know the answer very well

It is the preference. For someone, included me, I would rather do that other wise I feel that some metal particles floating in the oil and running around inside hurting the engine That's would be in my head until I get the oil changed

+1. An early oil change on a new engine is just prudent and much cheaper than a new engine. I'd do it without hesitation.

You might consider even going so far as to have the trans flushed (if you have PDK) while you're at it, for the very same reason you want to change the engine oil. Some may think this is overkill, but I don't. How you take care of a machine from the start has a huge impact on its lifespan. Having many years of prior experience in the auto maintenance industry, I have witnessed this without exception.

YMMV. Enjoy that wonderful car!

Audi actually includes a first oil change at 2000 mile for free. I am not a mechanic or engineer, but it just makes me feel "cleaner" to change oil after 2k mi on all my new cars.

Congratulations! Now on with the launch control!

Yup, prudent to do an oil change. I did mine at 1k miles. Overkill maybe, but habit.

Okay, now guys, listen to this....I thought the same and a month ago I went to my dealer to do an oil change.....he 'refused' to do it

He explained to me the reason why on the 991 an oil change after break in period is not suggested....I didn't understand the reason, BUT i figured.....I'm here to spend $300+ on an oil change and Porsche doesn't want me to, I'll trust them....

Anybody knows why? He mentioned something about the piston rings doing something....Again, English is not my first language, so I would understand the explanation in Italian, but not in English

Congrats! I did my oil change at 1750 also! I would have broken my 2,000 mile if my car wasn't in the shop for the following . I'm shocked no one else is having the same issues as mine:

Failed PCM unit, the radio tries turning on but doesn't.
Failed clutch assembly the spring doesn't work.
Intermittent metal on metal noises from front driver side.

Man, that list is scary! Sorry that you are having all that trouble. I had my car towed over the weekend (see my other thread: " my C4S won't start"). I was out of gas when the fuel gauge showed 1/4 tank remaining with 66 mile range! Now I have to take it in to get a gas tank calibrated, and probably get fuel sending unit replaced. This is my 6th Porsche, and the first one with an issue. Good luck with yours!

That's very interesting. I am about to schedule my oil change with a dealer; will let you know if they give me any grief.

Sounds like your dealer might be from the dark ages and think auto manufacturers still use break-in oil in new engines.

Hi Guys, my salesperson replied as to why I shouldn't do an oil change before it's scheduled. This is his answer:

yes, oil changes should be done at 10,000 miles or 1
year whichever comes first. The reason is that the piston rings must "seat"
into the grooves of the piston, thereby allowing them to be stable as they
move up and down the cylinders. If you change the oil at 3 or 4 k mi. then
that oil and its surrounding piston rings won`t "seat." In the old days we
used "natural" oil which burned and left ash and varnish which would allow
the rings to stick in place sooner. Now the synthetic oil has no biological
components which burn and leave ash. While this is Very good for longevity
of your motor, due to its heat resistance, it also takes longer for the
piston rings to "seat." You will notice some oil used by the engine during
the first 5k mi. So you may wish to purchase another quart or two to
replace that. You will experience more power and less oil usage after @ 5k
miles. You will also get better fuel mileage. I hope this helps

Any input would be great. Also, my 991S has 2,700 miles and it's telling me that I need an oil change now....any input on this?

Thank you

Ale
