Hello,

As my dealer recommends, and am not sure if they do the same elsewhere, my C2S was called for the 1500 KM quick service/quick check up. Where my dealer bring the new cars in just to check that everything is fine even before the break in period finishes. They just check oil and break levels, and all other liquids levels together with checking the tires conditions and the tire pressures which is great for me to know that everything is great so far. I also asked to check if its possible keep the auto start/stop deactivated even after restarting the car, apparently the service advisor informed my that it is not! And i have to do it manually every time i start the car if am not happy with this function. I remember reading somewhere over here that it is possible somehow, is that true or am i having some memory issues ? your help is appreciated

Nope. You can't. One of the benefits of the auto stop is the coasting feature. Of course, one of the detriments is the annoying engine stop and restart. In order to improve mileage I do not disable it on long trips

In my car the auto stop/start function can be toggled through the console button and the toggle chosen persists through turning the car on and off. Of course the other functions associated with the button (e.g., coasting) are also toggled. I learned this because I thought the function was meaningless in everyday driving and then learned I always had it "off". For some buttons the red lights mean "on", in others "off". I was not paying attention to the actual lettering on the button as well.

I had the impression that if you have memory seat, it would remember your start/stop setting? No?

So that means if i have memory seat the function can be deactivated and persist deactivated? And if i don't i have to do it manually every time ?

Apparently and as I found on some other websites discussing the same issue, the European region cars can not deactivate this function permanently, and as our region (middle east) always follow similar standards to the European region, I came to a conclusion, that it looks like I will have to do this manually every day !

Rather than press the auto-stop/start button, press the sport button. That is entirely more pleasing in every possible way...

I am just waiting for the break in period to finish, then I will post again asking for a way to keep sport mode activated permanently !

jc_333 is infamous around these parts
That auto start/stop is quite annoying and I always turn it off in traffic as I believe that will do more damage than good. Starting and going every few minutes cannot be good for your engine. Just as annoying in the GTS as well and same method turning it off in lite traffic.

I never knew about a break in period but went steady until 1,000miles then hit 6,500rpm a few times. I dont believe it will harm the engine as variation in rpm is a good thing imo.

I live in Beijing and I've been dealing with the same problem; I know it's just pressing an easily-accessible button, but still it annoys the hell out of me. Would you happen to know if China also gets the similar Euro Spec cars that would make disabling Auto Stop/Start permanently impossible? I know for a fact that it's standard on US 991s according to Porsche's US website. I have the Adaptive Sports Seats Plus option which has memory seat and all that but still can't get this sorted out.

US Cars are one time turn on, press set button on door, press button 3 and wait for beep, done................too bad sport button isnt the same for leaving that on all the time.

be interesting to know if it is one guy/gal making these type of customer lifestyle driving decisions or a committee within porsche. also why would different areas of the world be different, seems like manufacturing would be easier with one method with maximum flexibility for driver.

probably shouldnt complain!!! my chev tahoe driver controls was designed by a committee of single digit IQ's

You can't permanently activate Sport Button.

Whether one engineer or a committee of engineers, all enhancement controls like Sport Button, Sport+, PSE, and Auto/Start are defaulted to inactive state when the car is started. The reason is so that in default, stock Porsches run quieter and leaner in order to meet worldwide noise and fleet average mileage requirements.

That being said, however, Auto/Start can be defaulted to Off (which means the red light is On) IF you have Seat Memory option.

There has been a lot of confusion about how to save comfort settings. Just pressing Set and then #1 or #2 DOES NOT SAVE these comfort settings. #1 or #2 only save your seat, mirrors and steering wheel settings for the key currently in use. All comfort settings (such PCM mode, radio stations, AC or Auto/Start) are only saved by hitting Set and the #3 button (the one with a little picture of a key, as TrySixty stated).

These settings and the current driver's preferred seat settings are then saved ONLY FOR THAT KEY. It does not override the comfort settings of the OTHER key. The second key has to be done independently, the same way or differently if there is a second driver that occasionally drives the car.

Also, the settings switch over to the other key ONLY if the second key is used to unlock the car. For example, if I go out to the garage and as I'm about to get in the unlocked car I notice the seat position is up (meaning the last person to drive it was my wife) I need to lock the car, then immediately unlock it and the car recognizes that it's my key and changes everything back to my settings.

It's confusing. Don't rely solely upon some of the misunderstandings and misinformation on the Boards, some of it is flat wrong.

It does require a thorough & non-distracted reading of the Owners Manual or iManual on a clear-headed Saturday or Sunday morning and a few hours of many trips back & forth into the house to get each key out of range of the sensors so you can properly test your setup.

As others has describe it, it is NOT happening in euro spec cars EVEN IF you have seat memory option. But I'm sure someone with deep knowledge of piwis should be able to show they way on how to make it happened on EU spec'ed 991.

Very interesting!!! Did someone in Porsche NA tell you this? I'm not familiar with the worldwide noise standard, is it 40,50,60 db??

Also is Porsche really struggling with CAFE standards or is the stop/start feature a "feel good" corporate image for the environmental global warming folks?

As for NOT having the sport mode be on just like the start/stop button through the key memory...........i think someone in Porsche realized that you could impress the ladies by saying " lets get into a sport mode now" Obviously Sport + mode could be very interesting.
